The Data Analyst position plays a crucial role in leveraging data to inform decision-making and enhance operational efficiency within John A. Logan College. This individual will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting various data sets related to student enrollment, academic performance, institutional effectiveness, and other relevant metrics. The primary objective is to provide actionable insights and recommendations to support strategic planning, resource allocation, and program improvements across the institution.
Education & Experience Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Computer Science; Information Systems, Business Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, etc.)
Experience: Previous experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and data visualization techniques; understanding of programming languages such as SQL, R, or similar for data manipulation and analysis; familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar software; strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail; experience working in a higher education or institutional research environment is desirable; and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.) year teaching or tutoring experience in related fields
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
· Data Collection and Management:
o Gather data from multiple sources including student information systems, learning management systems, surveys, and external databases.
o Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security through rigorous validation and quality assurance processes.
· Data Analysis and Interpretation:
o Perform statistical analysis and data mining techniques to identify trends, patterns, and correlations in student enrollment, retention, graduation rates, and academic performance.
o Conduct predictive modeling and forecasting to anticipate future enrollment trends and resource needs.
o Interpret data findings and present clear, actionable insights to key stakeholders including academic administrators, faculty members, and institutional leadership.
· Reporting and Visualization:
o Design and generate regular and ad-hoc reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to communicate key performance indicators and metrics.
o Utilize data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar software to create compelling visual representations of data insights.
o Customize reports and dashboards to meet the specific needs of different stakeholders and departments within the institution.
· Institutional Research and Decision Support:
o Support strategic planning initiatives by providing data-driven recommendations on enrollment management, student success initiatives, and academic program development.
o Assist in the evaluation and assessment of institutional effectiveness and accreditation requirements through the analysis of relevant data.
· Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
o Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in higher education data analytics, institutional research, and data management.
o Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to streamline data collection, analysis, and reporting workflows.
o Actively contribute to developing data governance policies, data standards, and data-driven decision-making practices within John A. Logan College.
