Scope Summary
Analyzes, interprets or makes deductions from varying facts or circumstances; ability to solve research/engineering problems where processes, methods, and guidelines are unclear, need to be adapted, or not established; ability to make decisions regarding research/engineering planning, design, analysis, evaluation, methodology and/or management; and skill in accomplishing duties that require novel, creative, and innovative scientific and engineering approaches.
Projects and tasks are typically of low to moderate complexity. Functions under limited supervision; expected to make frequent independent judgments with guidance only provided in most complex scenarios. Work is monitored early and reviewed to lesser extent once demonstrated.
Typical Functions

Independently performs components of a research program as directed by a senior member of the research team.

Exercise broad judgment and independence to substantially assist faculty or senior researchers in research project planning; research design; development of novel methods, techniques, processes, technologies, products; model development; overall data management; documentation and maintenance of tools, software, and method procedures; and advanced qualitative or quantitative analysis culminating in significant and original research interpretation

Presentation of research projects which may include authoring papers, manuscripts, publications, technical white papers.

Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders.

May plan and lead small research components of existing research projects; learns methods for project planning, including assessment of cost, scope, and schedule against plan.

Assists faculty and/or senior researchers/engineers in searching for, applying, writing, and submitting grant/project proposals.

Helps promote research activities.

May mentor and supervise research support staff and students.
-
May assist in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate classes.

May assist with managing research laboratories.

Performs other duties as assigned.

IGM: The School of Interactive Games and Media (IGM)is one of six administrative units within GCCIS. IGM has over 30 full-time faculty and is committed to excellence in teaching and research. IGM offers undergraduate Bachelor of Science degrees in Game Design and Development and New Media Interactive Development, a Master of Science in Game Design and Development, and an accelerated BS/MS in Game Design and Development. IGM provides leadership, administrative, financial, and logistical support to nearly 900 undergraduate students (including mandatory co-op experience) and about 60 graduate students - making it one of the largest degree programs at RIT. IGM is currently ranked in the top 10 of the Princeton Review, US News & World Report, and the Animation Career Review for Game Design and Development programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. IGM is also home to several labs and research centers, especially in the areas of GeoGames, Geographic Information Science and Technology, and Open Sources Data and Software. IGM also plays a large research and delivery role working closely with RITs MAGIC (Media, Arts, Games, Interaction & Creativity) Center, which is a university-wide collaboration for research and publishing in games and digital media. The MAGIC Center is comprised of both a university research & development center and an independent game publishing studio.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience:
Masters degree in specified field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Game
Design, or related field OR Bachelors degree in specified field of Computer Science,
Computer Engineering, Game Design or related field
At least 3 years of postbachelors work experience.
