Position Summary
PIRE is looking for an early career Injury Epidemiologist-Associate Research Scientist to add to our National Capital Region Center team located in Beltsville, Maryland. Initial work assignments will range across substance use and injury areas, including evaluating local and national programs on substance use prevention; providing technical assistance through the Children's Safety Network Economics and Data Analysis Resource Center; supporting a variety of evaluation and economic analysis efforts in injury and substance use; and grant-writing. The salary for this full-time position ranges between $32.00 to $37.00 per hour.
Job Requirements
- Training or experience in substance use and injury prevention required
- Master's degree is required. A Ph.D., or equivalent advanced degree preferred in Public Health or related field. A combination of education, training, and experience may qualify the candidate
- Good written and oral communication skills in English
- Excellent management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and coordinate several simultaneous project activities
- Experience using R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA and preferably more than one
- The warm and friendly manner of a technical assistance provider
- Two professional references
- One writing sample required (preferably a first-authored peer-reviewed publication)
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
- Able to work in the United States for any employer
Some Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducting evaluations of substance use and injury prevention programs, including literature review, logic model, evaluation plan, data collection (focus groups, interviews, surveys), analysis, and reports
- Providing technical assistance around childhood injury prevention
- Cleaning, linkage, and analysis of large administrative and health care claims data sets
- Planning, performing, and interpreting statistical analyses
- Contributing to development, maintenance, and application of injury and substance use incidence/cost/return-on-investment models
- Developing and overseeing execution of research protocols
- Designing and supervising data collection and management
- Developing and contributing to applications for funding
- Developing and contributing to research articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals, as well as reports, presentations, and other contract documents and deliverables
- Presenting research findings at professional/scientific meetings and conferences
