LMI is seeking a Scientist to support Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Experimental Therapeutics Branch (WRAIR ET) and its collaborating institutions in the conduct of biomedical research that is responsive to Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Army requirements. WRAIR ET’s mission is to is to discover and develop new therapeutic agents to protect military members from death, disease, and injury. Collectively, ET engages in drug discovery, drug efficacy and mechanism evaluation, formal preclinical and clinical development. The Branch also contributes to Graduate Medical Education via the Clinical Pharmacology Fellowship – the only fellowship of its kind within the DoD.

Provide in vitro metabolism and disposition experimental support to include the design and execution of high-throughput cell-based assays in efforts related to discovery and development of new therapeutic drugs.
Design, implement, and perform in vitro permeability studies utilizing high throughput robotic systems and appropriate cell lines to assess permeability and potential for drug metabolism.
Design, implement, and perform standard or novel procedures for assessing in vitro drug metabolism using recombinant enzymes and tissue fractions that include recombinant Cytochrome P450s, liver microsomes, primary hepatocytes, and additional enzyme-based assays to assess drug metabolism.
Implement analytical methods for candidate drugs and metabolites using liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, in support of metabolic profiling and preclinical drug pharmacokinetic studies.
Train junior lab members in the procedures required for cell culture and assay performance as required.
Collaborate in the development and validation of analytical methods for the identification of candidate new drugs and putative metabolites using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV/Vis), fluorescence, electrochemical detection, radioactive monitor analyses, and/or mass spectrometry as needed.
Analyze data and prepare reports in support of Investigational New Drugs and New Drug Applications through the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) using standardized computer applications and relevant software.
Generate and maintain detailed laboratory records and related summaries and reports, all of which remain property of the WRAIR.
Prepare and present novel research projects as abstracts and/or for submission for the peer review publication process.
Comply with all specified guidelines regarding safety, security, standard operating procedures, written protocols, technical manuals, and procurement of supplies/equipment as per WRAIR regulations.
