Position Title: Assistant Superintendent
Department: Administration

Reports to: Superintendent
FLSA Class: Exempt
SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting the Superintendent in administration of the district, as directed. Oversees all building administrators and is responsible for day-to-day operations of schools in District #7.
DUTIES
- Assist the Superintendent in overseeing the operation of the school district.
- Work with directors, coordinators, principals, and building staff to build vision, set priorities, and develop long- and short-range plans for the school district's daily operation.
- Oversee the registration process, Student Information System (SIS), and state reporting.
- Provide administrative supervision to Kid Zone and Summer Zone programming.
- Serve as FOIA Officer for District #7 FOIA requests.
- Provide support and guidance for behavior management, providing oversight and ensuring consistency with implementation of policies and practices related to behavior management.
- Assists principals and assistant principals in the development of leadership skills.
- Represent District #7 through an ongoing presence in schools and at school events.
- Provide coaching for school leaders in school improvement planning, general administration of schools, and teacher evaluation.
- Support school leaders in implementation of school improvement initiatives that positively impact school culture, standards, assessment, and instruction.
- Create a collaborative culture and establish effective communication channels between central office staff and school administrators.
- Collaborate with central office instructional and student services staff to evaluate programs, services, and practices.
- Establish and maintain clear, consistent communication channels with families and community partners to receive input and feedback on the effectiveness of schools and to resolve concerns.
- Communicate and provide direction for all building staff to ensure quality performance at all levels.
- Provide leadership for positive conflict resolution for schools, parents, students, and staff.
- Attend and assist with coordinating meetings of K-12 principals and District Leadership Team.
- Supervise the performance of those delegated by the Superintendent.
- Participate as needed and/or requested in the selection and orientation of principals and other staff.
- Provide leadership for the study of enrollment patterns and demographics and works with Directors, Coordinators, and principals in developing potential changes in attendance areas, assignment of staff and service quality.
- Serve as liaison to various community, university, and other school district projects and groups within the county.
- Attend Board meetings and prepare such reports for the Board as the Superintendent may request.
- Organize and lead committees as requested by Superintendent.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of an Ed.S. in school administration with a valid Illinois Professional Educator License or Educator License with Superintendent Endorsement; Doctorate Preferred.
- At least 5 years of school and/or district leadership experience, preferably in a central office role. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.
- Establishes and maintains effective and courteous work relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, staff, and parents).
- Possesses the ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
- Possesses the ability to communicate to and maintain relationships with volunteers, community members, and outside agencies in an acceptable/courteous manner.
