PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TO
Superintendent
JOB SUMMARY
Providing leadership and managerial oversight to the instructional program and school operations and promoting the educational development of each student. Ensure that the high school academic and co-curricular programs are implemented to maximize teacher instruction and student learning experiences.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
School Leadership
- Manage the school according to federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
- Initiate, design, and implement programs to meet the specific needs of the school
- Career Technical Education (CTE) Supervisor
- Exercise leadership in school-level planning for improvement of instruction
- Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school
- Coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services
- Communicate information to parents and the community
- Act as a liaison between the school and the community (including all ethnic groups), interpreting activities and policies of the school, and encouraging community participation in school life
- Handle incidents of discipline resulting in a suspension from school, as well as all incidents of violence, vandalism, substance abuse, and weapons possession
- Work cooperatively with law enforcement authorities in maintaining a safe and drug-free school environment
- Plan, schedule, and supervise fire and other emergency drills and an emergency preparedness program as required by federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
- Greet and interact with parents and visitors during school functions
- Assist in the supervision of the cafeteria during lunch hours and assist with playground supervision when needed
Interaction with School Staff
- Assist in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the schools personnel as needed
- Supervising professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and non-professional personnel and teacher trainees
- Supervise extracurricular programs and assembly programs
- Assign faculty members to assist at school functions
- Assist in the coordination and supervision of special programs funded by the state or federal government
- Make recommendations to the Superintendent for changes in policies, personnel practices, and other matters that may result in a more effective school administration
- Work collaboratively with the Professional Development Committee to ascertain high school in-service needs, and assist with the planning and organization of appropriate classes to meet those needs
- Assist the process in providing teachers with the appropriate integration of technology in the classroom
Curriculum, Instruction, and Contact with Students
- Supervise the schools educational program and teaching process and monitor delivery of the instructional program
- Oversee the scheduling of students into classes, establishing the schedule of class offerings, and maintaining a balance of student loads in each class
- Plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate all curricular and extracurricular activities
- Assume responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of the students
- Greet students in a friendly and dependable manner during their morning arrival whenever possible
- Supervise the dismissal of students at the end of the school day
- Interact appropriately with students during the school day
- Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce the districts discipline policies in accordance with the students' rights to due process, keep records of any disciplinary action, and perform follow-up communication with students parents, teachers, and other administrators as needed
- Assist in developing and implementing student handbooks and procedures for proper student conduct
- Participate in the planning and delivery of intervention and referral services for pupils who are having difficulty in their classes and who have not been classified in need of special education
- Provide guidance to individual students and resolve individual behavioral problems
- Attend special events held to recognize student achievement and other school-sponsored activities and functions
- Assist with regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences
- Make arrangements for special conferences as necessary
- Maintain an active relationship with students and parents based on respect and understanding
- Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and work with the Attendance Supervisor for investigative follow-up actions
- Actively pursue all cases of truancy, excessive absences, and tardies
- Assist in the preparation of required reports on violence, vandalism, substance abuse, and possession of firearms
Financial and Office Management
- Assist with the proper collection, safekeeping, and accounting of school activity funds
- Assist with the development of the annual budget
- Supervise the preparation of school reports, records, and other paperwork for the district office
- Utilize technology for data collection and interpretation in the areas of academics, attendance, and discipline
- Perform such record-keeping and reporting functions as the Superintendent may direct
- Participate in administrative, Board, and other meetings as required or appropriate
- Keep appropriate personnel informed of the schools activities, needs, and any issues that may arise
- Provide for adequate inventories of property under school jurisdiction and for the security of that property
Other
- Assist in providing for the safety and administration of the school building and grounds
- Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment
- Assist in the planning and supervision of activities to promote pupil and employee health and safety
- Shared duties with extra-curricular activities including, but not limited to sports
- Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications

EVALUATION
The performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the superintendent in conformance with district policy.
COMPENSATION
Salary based on experience. Position qualifies for benefits which include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; PERSI retirement as well as access to optional ancillary insurance and retirement products.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This position shall be considered in all respects employment at will. The employment period and other descriptions and terms outlined in this job description shall not create a property right for the employee. These are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what type of services will be required by the district so long as the employment continues. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
