POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Nurse is responsible for assessing, treating, and directing care of the students and school staff for medical issues. The Nurse will prevent physical issues, and disease, and coordinate routine health assessments.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Responsible for professional, medical treatment of students

• Responsible for disease prevention

  • Administering and processing tests such as COVID

• Provides emergency aid to students and school staff

• Perform wound care

• Develop care plans for students with ongoing conditions

• Administer over-the-counter and prescription medication

  • Monitor students for side effects or reactions

  • Documents all medication administered, symptoms, reason for visit, etc.

• Educate students and staff on health procedures

• Ensure maintenance of health records such as immunizations and school entry health examinations

• Coordinate the submission of every student's medical records to meet minimum health standards

• Communicate with students’ parents regarding the reason for the visit, medications, etc.

SECONDARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Assists the teachers in instructing students in health education

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

• Registered Nurse (RN) certification required

• Bachelor’s preferred but not required

SKILLS & ABILITIES 

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Critical-thinking skills

• Knowledge of state health regulations

• Ability to multitask

• Excellent bedside manner

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Clinic

• Requires off-campus field trips, when needed

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk/computer

• Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and bending
