POSITION TITLE

School Nurse

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Head of School, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse to join our team. The School Nurse will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of students and staff within the school community. The ideal candidate should be a registered nurse with a strong commitment to providing quality healthcare and promoting a safe and nurturing educational environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Health Assessment: Conduct health assessments for students and staff, including monitoring vital signs and evaluating overall health status.
• First Aid and Emergency Care: Provide immediate first aid and emergency care for injuries and illnesses that occur on school premises. Ensure that emergency response protocols are followed.
• Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications to students, adhering to the school’s medication policy, and maintain accurate records.
• Health Education: Educate students, parents, and staff on various health-related topics, including nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention.
• Health Promotion: Develop and implement health promotion programs to support the physical and mental well-being of students and staff.
• Health Records: Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all students and staff, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
• Communicate with Parents: Collaborate with parents and guardians regarding students’ health concerns and provide guidance on follow-up care and treatment as needed.
• Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, counselors, and other school personnel to address the health and wellness needs of students, including those with chronic conditions.
• Immunization Compliance: Monitor and ensure students’ compliance with immunization requirements.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed and up-to-date health documentation and provide regular reports to school administration as required.
• Emergency Preparedness: Participate in school emergency preparedness drills an assist in developing and updating emergency response plans.
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of MN.
• CPR and First Aid certification.
• Previous experience in pediatric nursing, school nursing, or a related field is a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Compassion, empathy, and genuine concern for the well-being of students.
• Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations related to school nursing.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
