Juab School DIstrict has an opening for a SpEd Bus Aide / Instructional Assistant with transportation assist for bus drivers on their afternoon route each day. This is a part time position with up to 29 hours per week. This job is attached to the Classified Salary Schedule. Bus Aide Description

• Assist in providing safe transportation to help students enjoy the complete educational program of the school district.
• Assist bus drivers in supervising students.
• Maintain effective student discipline.
• Ensure students board and depart the bus orderly.
• Assist young or disabled students in boarding and departing the bus. Care for the needs of disabled students.
• Assist bus drivers in resolving problems with students. 
• Respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous and timely manner.
• Perform such other duties as assigned from time to time.
• Must be able to pass a physical assessment (lift 50lbs. and drag 125lbs)

General Purpose: An Instructional Assistant assists teachers in the delivery of educational and behavioral interventions of SpEd students; also assists students in general education classrooms with the goal of helping students to reach their educational goals. Due to the varied and individual needs of each student, instructional assistants may provide a variety of support and assistance, and should be flexible adjusting to student needs.

Supervision: Works under the guidance and direction of teachers and school principal.

Essential Job Functions:

• Delivers educational interventions designed by SpEd teachers to help students meet educational, academic, life skill, behavioral, physical, social and emotional goals.
• Assists SpEd students in study skills to re-teach and pre-teach topics, complete assignments, and prepare for tests.
• Provides support to SpEd students in general education classrooms to meet either educational or behavioral goals, and to help them be successful in the general education curriculum under the direction of the regular education teacher.
• Provides small group and tutorial instruction and supervision as needed.
• Communicates effectively with staff, students, and or parents regarding needs and concerns. Provides communication while keeping
• Adheres to good practices while at school- don’t use personal cell phones to take pictures or videos of student.
• Attend to health care plans and physical needs of students. Which may include: feeding, toileting, diapering, responding to medical emergencies, and handling equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to interact and communicate effectively with children with special needs.
• Ability to work as a team member providing services to children with special needs.
• Ability to remain positive and calm while interacting with special needs students
• Ability to use excellent communication skills.
• Ability to use sound judgement and knowledge of student behaviors and district policy to make decisions.

Confidentiality: ALL instructional assistants will strictly adhere with no exceptions to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, (academic, medical, behavioral) parents, parent communications, and/or classroom activities.

Discussion of specific issues and/or events concerning a student in a classroom are the responsibility of the classroom teacher, i.e. a discipline plan, a student’s behavior in class, a conflict between students, a conflict between a student and a teacher. Discussion of a specific teacher’s perceived instructional ability and/or performance is the responsibility of the school principal to evaluate.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Willingness to acquire any training deemed necessary by the Director of Special Education.
