Sales Director directs sales organization operations and develops the tactics, operational plans, and processes to implement the organizational sales strategy, drive revenue growth, and accomplish financial objectives. Establishes and implements processes, tools, and structures to support the sales organization's operations. Being a Sales Director oversees goal setting for departmental and group levels of the sales organization and uses data and technology to measure and monitor sales processes, identify issues, and enhance performance. Implements methods and systems to effectively analyze and monitor the industry, business environment, and competitors and expand the customer base. Additionally, Sales Director uses market and customer insights to collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and suggest new products. Builds effective sales and support teams with recruiting, mentoring, and development programs. May personally participate in or negotiate strategic or high-value sales. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Sales Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Sales Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     We are hiring for the role of Director of Sales.  This full-time leadership opportunity is based at Alyeksa Resort, and offers an excellent compensation and benefits package.

    Alyeska resort is a 300 room resort which includes a Nordic Spa and Ski Area. Alyeska is nestled in the Mountains of Girdwood, Alaska located 45 minutes south of Anchorage. As the Director of Sales, you will have oversight of our Sales division. The role is accountable for the people, quality and financial results of the Sales Team.

    Achieving Excellence:

    As the Director of Sales, your key focuses will be:

    • Direct the solicitation efforts of the sales team through effective oral and written communication while overseeing rate, date and space commitments for group room sales within the hotel.
    • Recruit, interview, hire, train, coach, provide open communication and work collaboratively with other Team leaders.
    • Ensure training programs are conducted regularly and give guidance and career development.
    • Compile and/or direct the preparation of reports pertaining to the operation of the Sales Department to include the annual and monthly forecasts, lead management system, group booking pace report, occupancy reports and sales meeting minutes.
    • Develop and conduct persuasive verbal sales presentations to prospective clients. Internally promote Company programs.
    • Communication both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction to the staff.
    • Initiate preparation of annual business plan and execute plans as outlined, critically examining and adjusting as deemed necessary by current market conditions.
    • Organize and/or attend scheduled sales department, executive committee, and related meetings.
    • Direct and manage all group, transient, catering, banquet, tram, special event, and ticket activities to maximize revenue for the Hotel and Resort. Work collaboratively with the Alyeska Nordic Spa General Manager to enhance group bookings and utilize the spa as leverage for more group bookings particularly in shoulder seasons.
    • Prepare, implement and compile data for the strategic sales plan, monthly reports, annual goals, sales budget, forecasts and other reports as directed/required.
    • Develop rates, group sales and catering/banquet deployment strategies through review of competitive data, demand analysis and mix management.
    • Oversee departmental matters as they relate to federal, state, and local employment and civil rights laws.
    • Professionally represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events.

     Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent; MBA a plus.
    • 5 years’ experience in the management of branding, strategic development, revenue management, marketing and communications functions on and offline in Hotel/Resort industry or related business.
    • Advanced computer proficiency, including Opera, IdeaS, Microsoft Word, Excel etc.
    • Strong analytical, planning, forecasting and budget/financial skills.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Ability to keep current with trends and business flow related to the travel industry.
    • Ability to lead, inspire and challenge your team to success.

    Working Conditions:

    This position is based primarily in an office setting working Monday to Friday; however, it may require some long days and/or weekends to meet periodic upturn in business demands or meet deadlines. This position is set in a fast-paced environment, with high levels of interaction with employees, guests and other stakeholders.

    Physical Demands: 

    The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Visual ability to observe employees in the workplace, analyze operations and detect situations of concern with regard to areas such as employee performance, grooming, training and policy adherence. Employee may be required to pass a functional capacity test developed for this job.
