    Description:

    Markon is creating a team to provide Construction Management support to the Western North Carolina VA Health Care System (WNCVAHCS). The team be based out of the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC, and support multiple facilities in the WNCVAHCS. The services provided by this team will include, but are not limited to pre-design phase services, design phase services, procurement phase services, construction services, claims services, administration services, and technical specialty services. Duties may include:

    • Support management and planning, scheduling, recordkeeping, and general oversight of design and construction program.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections of construction sites, identifying potential hazards and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
    • Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and the client to implement effective safety strategies and practices.
    • Evaluate and monitor the construction contractors’ performance, as it relates to compliance with the Site Safety Specification for each contract and recognized laws and standards for construction and client safety. 
    • Assess the contractors Accident Prevention (APP) and/or Construction Safety & Health Plan.
    • Establish and maintain a safety awareness and prevention program that will safeguard against work site safety incidents.
    • Monitor the contractor’s adherence to the contract safety requirements and report identified concerns and deficiencies to the client.
    Job Requirements

    Professional Experience / Qualifications

    • Must have completed the OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety class
    • Have a specialized formal course in the hazard recognition control associated with high hazard work operations such as operations involving asbestos, electrical, cranes, demolition, working at heights/fall protection, fire safety/life safety, ladder, rigging, scaffolds, and trenches/excavations.

    Education, Certifications, Affiliations

    • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or be able to attain this certification within 90 days of contract award, with at least three (3) years of construction industry safety program management experience

    OR

    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) with at least two (2) years of construction industry safety program management experience

    OR

    • Have a Bachelor’s degree in safety and health from an accredited university or college and have three (3) years construction industry safety program management experience.
