Safety Specialist implements, manages and monitors safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. Evaluates the organization's procedures, facilities and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions. Being a Safety Specialist ensures the organization complies with all current safety regulations and that all employees are aware of safety requirements and are prepared to follow safety procedures. Collects data and reports on all safety and accident events. Additionally, Safety Specialist may have additional responsibility for fire prevention, hazardous waste management, resource conservation, or other safety related activities depending on the industry and location. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Safety Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.   • The Safety Specialist is responsible for executing safety initiatives across assigned Lewis areas to enhance the safety culture and identify, evaluate, and control risks necessary to drive Safety performance and operating efficiency. The Safety Specialist will work with Operations to educate and drive Safety compliance by performing the day-to-day activities of visiting job crews, observing work, communicating best practices, providing training, and demonstrating safety leadership as aligned with Lewis’s Values and Operating Principles.

    What You'll Do…

    • Present as a visible leader, influencing and motivating while modeling Lewis's operating principles
    • Build and maintain a strong partnership with Operations to drive positive and continuous Safety improvements.
    • Participate in morning huddles and deliver safety tailgates/safety moments to job crews.
    • Conduct worksite observations to identify potential risks and compliance with company and regulatory requirements. Provide feedback to operations leadership on the observations.
    • Provide timely assistance and consistent interpretation of company safety polices/procedures and regulatory requirements.
    • Support crews in using safety and human performance tools and practices, ensuring the tools are effective in the field.
    • Stay abreast of trends and best practices and provide sharing opportunities across the Safety organization.
    • Train and coach on:
      • working safely with utility line clearance tools such as saws (chain and hand), pruners, hanger poles, ropes and rigging tools, saddles, full body harnesses, aerial lifts, and more.
      • technical skills from fundamentals to advanced (i.e., roping and rigging, collision avoidance, climbing techniques).
      • safety related processes and risks (i.e., aerial rescue, electrical safety, 1st aid/CPR)

    • The ability to travel, including overnight, by ground and/or air transportation is required.

     

    What You'll Need…

    • Associate degree in related field or the equivalent combination of High School diploma or GED along with safety/industry related credentials or similar to: CUSP, CTSP, ASP, GSP, ISA Arborist and/or equivalent work experience.
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in line-clearance or related industry
    • Knowledge of OSHA and applicable ANSI requirements and compliance, OSHA 30 Hour or equivalent combination.
    • Credentialed Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP), or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire. Associate Safety Professional or related certification is preferred.
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Knowledge of Human Performance and Bi-lingual is an advantage.
