Develops and distributes educational materials including videos, guides, and posters. Being a Safety Representative tracks and documents accidents to understand causes and recommend changes to prevent future accidents. Performs inspections and audits of facilities, equipment and processes recommending corrections or additional precautions to ensure compliance to established regulations. Additionally, Safety Representative has a broad and current knowledge of all government and applicable industry safety regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Safety Representative works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed.     About Thompson Creek Mine

    The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometres southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.

    In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.

    Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

    About The Opportunity

    We are looking for a Representative, Health & Safety to join our Thompson Creek team.

    Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

    • Analyze and recommend improvements to systems, processes, and procedures.
    • Advise on effective planning and development of safety best practices.
    • Implement safety best practices among team members and collaborate with departmental managers to ensure follow-through.
    • Draw on your technical or professional expertise, knowledge & experience to identify & recommend tactical solutions to defined problems in practices.
    • Integrate business information, compare, analyze & produce reports to identify trends, discrepancies & inconsistencies for decision-making purposes.
    • Optimize goal achievement through tactical strategy implementation and optimization of practices, processes & systems across an internal value chain.
    • Plan for value-added, continuous practice & system improvements to deliver on objectives to enhance tactical implementation and excellence.
    • Proactively identify interconnected problems, determine their impact, and use them to develop best-fit alternatives, and best practice implementation solutions.
    • Become MSHA Instructor and conduct site-wide training across departments to Thompson Creek Training Plan approved by Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA)
    • Become a Radiation worker which will include inventory site sources, performing routine maintenance, and surveys on those sources.
    • Attending, and participating in respective department safety meetings.
    • Be visible to the TCM workforce and follow up on their safety concerns with the TCM Leadership Team.
    • Ensure that fire system inspections for respective areas are completed as directed by fire insurance carrier.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    About You

    To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required :

    • High school diploma and at least 2 years of applicable experience focused in a leadership or safety representative role.
    • Outstanding attention to detail and strong organizational skills
    • Track record focused on safety implementations and management.
    • Working knowledge of computers and experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
    • Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned work.
    • Must be a positive, proactive, dedicated team participant.
    • Previous experience in mining considered a strong asset.

    Critical thinking and critical thinking skills; ability to use logic and reasoning to analyze and identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
