SAFETY MANAGER plans and manages the general health, safety, and loss control policies and procedures of the organization. Monitors and evaluates the workplace to ensure compliance with governmental regulatory agencies. Being a SAFETY MANAGER designs and directs safety training programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Develops worker plans and policies for new employee safety orientation including skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Additionally, SAFETY MANAGER studies, identifies, and reports causes of past accidents and develops recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrences. Requires a bachelor's degree of occupational safety and health or related degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The SAFETY MANAGER manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Environmental Health and Safety
Purpose:
This Safety Manager position is responsible for working with operations, maintenance, staff functions, and mill leadership to develop initiatives and programs promoting safe work practices, improvements as well as meeting all applicable safety and health regulations.
Key Accountabilities:
* Responsible for case management of all work-related injuries and maintaining compliance with the OSHA record keeping requirements, including accident reports, statistical summaries/calculations, injury classification, etc.
* Coordinate safety and health standards training for all team members as well as fire, chemical, emergency, and first aid/CPR training for Emergency Response Team Members.
* Coordinate and provide resources for all mill, corporate, OSHA, and voluntary compliance audits. Conduct safety inspections with OSHA compliance officers, insurance company representatives, local fire department, etc. Record and follow up on their recommendations, maintain injury and other records required by OSHA, and develop the mill's investigative policies and procedures.
