Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Job Title: Director of Production.

    Summary:

    The Director of Production is responsible for the management of the assigned areas daily operations (production and people), ensuring the adherence to all regulatory and safety requirements, and fulfilling manufacturing output, quality, customer, and time requirements. This position is responsible to develop and maintain a team environment with high levels of participation from all manufacturing personnel.

    As a Director of Production, a typical day may include:
    • Developing and achieving established goals and measures, including safety, quality, delivery, and cost for the assigned areas of direct responsibility (production leadership team, hourly production staff, material handling, inventory control, shipping and receiving):
      • Safety: Driving a behavioral based safety mindset, ensuring personnel are trained and following safe working procedures, and   working with safety and engineering teams to reduce risks across the organization.
      • Quality: Ensuring that products and service are produced consistently and in conformance with established standards.
      • Delivery: Maintaining internal schedule compliance as well as on-time-delivery to customers.
      • Cost: Driving traditional metrics including Productivity, efficiencies, overtime, manufacturing waste (scrap). Maintaining budgetary expenses commensurate with business volumes.
    • Maintaining a positive work environment that encourages personnel participation, team-work, and mutual support, including collaboration cross departmentally.
    • Developing, inspiring, coaching, mentoring, and directing the activities of the production team to achieve word-class performance through a winning mindset.
    • Directing and providing execution oversight for production operations based on priorities and resources available, adjusting as needed to meet commitments to new product introduction, budgets, customer requirements, and governmental regulations.
    • Analyzing new projects or products, including lean manufacturing project implementation, and establishing tools, processes, and manpower necessary to achieve Company goals and objectives.
    • Managing the preparation of alternative business plans that require analysis decisions as they impact customer, plant, and production operations.
    • Observing and ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards, safety rules and applicable company policies and procedures including those from OSHA, EPA, DEP, and ISO.
    • Meeting with staff regularly to maintain effective communication regarding their impact on all existing priorities, commitments, and schedules.
    • Developing employees for greater responsibilities through training and challenging work assignments, recommending change of status and salary and counseling employees on attendance, performance, and other employee relations issues as needed.
    • Maintaining knowledge of current industry production and procedure techniques and trends; seeking input and guidance on complex problems or new activities.
    • Performing other duties as assigned in support of departmental KPIs and company objectives.
    Requirements:

    Education and Experience that you’ll bring:
    • Bachelor’s degree in relevant area, or equivalent experience.
    • 5 years of leadership in a manufacturing environment.
    • Strong proficiency in current computer software: MS Applications Word, Excel, and a solid understanding of ERP/MRP systems.
    • Other highly preferred competencies: Lean training or familiarity with concepts (Green Belt/Black Belt or other Six Sigma certification(s) a plus, but not required). Familiarity with OSHA, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, EPA, and DEP standards.
