Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Director of Safety and Risk Management (DSRM) will be responsible to manage the organization-wide risk management and patient safety programs in order to improve patient care and outcomes, reduce risk and provide guidance to clinical staff.  The DSRM will develop and maintain systems within WCCHC to detect, monitor, prevent, organize, measure, investigate, report and manage patient adverse events, malpractice claims, incident reports and other indicators of potential patient harm and employee safety.  

    The DSRM will work closely with the Chief Medical Officer, collaborate with senior leadership, department heads, and clinical staff to educate on standards, monitor and report on programs, review policies and procedures, develop and implement systems/processes to improve health outcomes, services and compliance. 


    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    1.  Associates Degree with a minimum of five years’ experience in a health care organization or setting required. Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in the health care field preferred.

    2.  Three (3) years’ experience in leadership and management required

    3.  Healthcare Professional License preferred

    4.  Five (5) years of progressive experience in the healthcare industry, preferably in Healthcare risk management, compliance and/or patient safety highly desired

    5.  Certification in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM) and is required.  If not certified upon hire this will need to be obtained by the end of the first year of employment

    6.  Certification in Root Cause Analysis is preferred

    7.  Certified to teach Basic Life Support required.  If not certified upon hire this will need to be obtained by the end of the first year of employment

    8.  Completed National Incident Management System (NIMS) training preferred

    9.  A valid Driver’s License and daily access to an automobile required
