Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • FPS Civil is seeking a highly experienced Construction Safety Director with extensive knowledge and experience with deep excavations that require extensive shoring solutions to ensure the safety of our work crews, customers, and general public. Minimum of 10 years construction safety management experience and 5 years of experience with deep excavations requiring extensive shoring systems. FPS Civil is a civil underground excavation company that specializes in deep excavations installing water, storm, sewer, and other wet utilities for private and public entities in the State of Arizona.

    Candidate will be responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, health, and environmental program for the organization, it is important for the candidate to have strong leadership skills and provide subject matter expertise. This includes providing training in safe work practices, safety regulations, field standards and conduct, and safe and productive equipment operations. Candidate is responsible in leading and supporting safety team and FPS management to promote participation and consistency in safety programs. Candidate will also be responsible and assure compliance with federal and state safety regulations to reduce accidents and workplace injuries. Candidate will ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements of OSHA, DOT, EPA, ADEQ, and any other applicable agencies. Candidate will establish and maintain workplace safety records including OSHA 300, DOT driver records and requirements, and all other required logs/documentation. Candidate will coordinate with insurance companies, brokers, and outside counsel as required and candidate should possess knowledge and skills in mitigating and managing all worker’s compensation, general liability, and automobile claims to achieve prompt claim closure and successful outcomes. Candidate will be responsible for managing and leading the safety team (Site Safety Coordinators & Safety Manager) to ensure that all JHA’s (Job Hazard Analysis), CBO’s (Critical Behavior Observations), Pre-Task plans, Incident Investigations, and all other job planning and execution plans are completed by required deadlines. Candidate will review all Incident investigations and root cause analysis to suggest corrective actions to management team. Candidate will attend and lead post AAR (After Action Review) meetings as required.

    Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years construction safety management experience Candidate should have OSHA 500 trainer certification, proficiency with OSHA excavation requirements and an understanding of DOT regulations and requirements. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Risk Management (ARM), or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) preferred. Must possess a valid Arizona driver license with acceptable driving record in accordance with company policy. Minimum 50 hours per week with some weekend and night work required. Construction job site environments in heavily congested construction site locations throughout Arizona, primarily in Maricopa County and surrounding areas. PPE gear required (steel toe boots, hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, and any other project specific gear) required on all construction sites. Working outdoors in inclement climate will be required.
