Job Description

A Day in the Life:

PRT is currently recruiting a seasonal, full-time bilingual Forklift Operator to be based out of Cottage Grove, OR at PRT Cottage Grove.  The Forklift Operator will assist with carrying out forest seedling production activities as directed by the Nursery Manager or designates. This engaging, high paced, physical position offers a safe work environment and an opportunity for a career that will make a positive change in the world. Candidates should have a desire and keenness to learn about the seed orchard activities, work independently and efficiently. Majority of the work will be done in the green houses and outdoors with exposure to temperature extremes at times. Candidates may be interviewed and tested to assess their skill, ability, competence, and efficiency for this position. The person in this position must pass the functional abilities assessment. The term for this position is from now until the end of May.

Key accountabilities of the Forklift Operator are:

• Operate forklifts over 40 HP in a safe and efficient way
• Keep neat and accurate records including computerized record keeping systems
• Operate computerized and other control systems
• Assist in the training of employees in the safe and efficient use of nursery equipment
• Repair and maintain equipment in safe working order
• Tarp, load and unload trucks
• Measure tree height and root RCD to ensure PRT provides the best possible quality to our customers.
• Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels
• Set targets (i.e., production, timelines) and evaluate achievement

About the team:

The person filling the Forklift Operator position will work alongside other nursery workers under the supervision of the Nursery Lead and report to the Nursery Manager.  This position is situated in the breathtaking Pacific Northwest. This beautiful location offers activities and magnificent scenery all year long!

Qualifications

Required/ Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

• Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
• Bilingual - Spanish/English
• Experience operating various mobile equipment
• Good manual dexterity and eyesight
• Team-oriented personality with a positive attitude
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Strong and professional communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
• Great organizational, record keeping and attention to detail skills
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25lbs
• Commitment to quality and safety

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

• Valid certification for operating various mobile equipment
• Experience in a shipping / receiving role
