Risk Modeling Manager oversees the strategic business analysis modeling activities involved in an organization's credit risk management function. Develops and evaluates systems associated with controlling credit risk. Being a Risk Modeling Manager determines strategies and policies that maximize profits and asset growth, and minimize credit and operating losses and other risk exposure. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Risk Modeling Manager typically reports to top management. The Risk Modeling Manager manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Risk Modeling Manager typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     As the Director of Portfolio Analytics, you will be assisting in the development of portfolio optimization and management tools and determining VRU’s long term capital and reinsurance needs.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Responsible for portfolio forecasts, conducting what if scenarios on possible portfolio actions, and determining the required capital to meet VRU’s business objectives
    • Work closely with business unit leaders to establish and implement tactics to improve overall portfolio results, while achieving GWP and revenue objectives
    • Work with various broker vendors to support the capital growth and reinsurance placements for the company by providing necessary data, reports and validation of submission materials
    • Model the probability distributions of the gross/ceded/net results using Verisk, RMS and other vendor cat models as needed
    • Analyze how the distribution of results and relevant risk measures change as a result of application of various proposed reinsurance alternatives
    • Demonstrate an understanding of commercial lines property insurance, including the application of complex policy terms and conditions
    • Assist in the review and refinement of the Velocity View Of Risk
    • Train and support the catastrophe analytics team when needed, including the production of review of monthly portfolio results, real time cat response reporting, data quality and completeness monitoring etc.
    • Respond to requests for information and assist with special projects, coordinating with other departments, as necessary

    You will thrive in this role if...

    You’ve got:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a mathematical or similar related discipline (mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, insurance or another related field highly preferred)
    • 5 years of cat modeling experience using Verisk, Moody’s RMS or other cat models
    • Data management experience including policy and exposure data warehousing
    • Intermediate / Advanced SQL skills, particularly in querying cat modeling databases
    • Programming skills such as python (preferred)
    • Quantitative, analytical skills, problem solving skills
    • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products
    • An understanding of business / underwriting needs
