The Opportunity This position works out of our Plymouth, MN location in the Electrophysiology division. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives. As the Director, Validation & Risk Management, you’ll be the leader for planning, implementing and standardizing validation and calibration program activities worldwide. In addition, you’ll develop and execute strategies that enable compliance with corporate and external regulations while driving consistent, efficient, and more timely practices across the division's global network. Responsible for the interpretation of requirements and development/maintenance of division level policies, processes, and procedures. The role provides subject matter expertise (SME) to the organization including education, technical support, issue resolution, integration of risk-based validation and project implementation strategy development. Manage division-wide quality assurance and quality improvement; including support for product development; design transfer; operations manufacturing; process validation; process control and enhancements; quality metric reporting; supplier qualification; design assurance programs; complaint handling and CAPA programs. What You’ll Work On Responsible for implementing/maintaining an effective, compliant, global Quality System in the areas of Validation and Calibration in a regulated industry. Responsible for the creation, implementation, interpretation and maintenance of related Division-level validation and risk management policies and procedures ensuring compliance to corporate and external regulatory requirements. Provide oversight, guidance, and subject matter expertise in the areas of Validation and Risk Management Validation includes areas of Devices, Hardware, Non-Product Software, Cleaning, Reprocessing, Test Method, Clinical Validation, Process and Design. Act as system/process owner/SME for Abbott validation and risk management IT solutions. Lead Community of Practice teams in related areas to identify and promote best practices worldwide. Serve as the division liaison for corporate initiatives linked to Validation and Risk Management. Support audits in related areas and any associated resolution of observations. Supervise and develop QA professionals providing direction, leadership and support including goal setting, performance assessment/management, growth, etc. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline is required. Minimum 10 years’ experience with the following: Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting Division products. Experience in Quality Assurance is an important element for a complete understanding of the job responsibilities. Budgetary responsibility, managing product development and launch process, supervision of multiple groups and teams. Knowledge of the Design Control Quality subsystem (QSR 820.30) and experience in product development. In depth knowledge of the technology of the Division product portfolio, the needs and demands of our customers and the markets we serve, and the requirements of the regulatory bodies that govern our Quality System. Preferred Qualifications Operations experience is especially helpful. Quality experience is an important element to meet Design Control Regulations. Product Development and Product Launch experience is helpful. Knowledge of advanced methods for Product Development such as Design For Six Sigma and DMAIC methodology is desired.
