DEPARTMENT: Risk Management
SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Risk Manager will assist in the administration of the City’s risk management program. Coordinates claims and issues dealing with workers compensation, property and liability insurance, safety programs and safety training to reduce or eliminate financial and operational losses to the City.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Requires five (5) years of any combination of work experience and/or education in fields related to risk management. Examples of work-related fields include, but not limited to, claims adjusting, underwriting, insurance sales, health and safety, law enforcement, paralegal, code enforcement, worker’s compensation and the promotion of safety within the City. Examples of education related fields include, but not limited to, course work in risk management, insurance, health and safety, public/business administration, criminal justice, paralegal or communications. Two years of direct risk management and/or municipal government experience preferred. Requires a valid Utah driver’s license. Certification in claims adjusting, safety or risk management is preferred. Such certifications include Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Registered Professional Adjuster (RPA), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate of Risk Management (ARM) and/or other related certifications. A one-year probationary period is a pre-requisite to this position. Knowledge of risk management and loss control techniques and practices, claims management and adjusting practices and techniques, insurance, compensation, computer capabilities and applications; word processing, spreadsheets and database applications; correct English usage, vocabulary, spelling and arithmetic. Responsibility for making recommendations and decisions affecting the activities of people, including working credibly with confidential records. Responsibility for actions that may lead to liability from a risk management perspective. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must demonstrate a positive attitude and communicate effectively, verbally, non-verbally, in writing and ability to make presentations to City management and employees. Must work well in teams and with individuals one-on-one, must maintain regular professional contact with the public and Department Managers.
