The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Office of the Commissioner has a full-time vacancy for Paralegal II, which has a 37.5 hour work week and is non-exempt.
SCOPE OF WORK: To perform paraprofessional legal duties for the Department of Safetys Legal Unit as it relates to responding to Right-To-Know requests, pursuant to New Hampshire RSA 91-A.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Reviews Right to Know requests made to the Department to determine if requests are compliant or exempt based on current law.
Researches and analyzes case law, statutes, rules and regulations to stay current on applicable law related to processing requests under the New Hampshire Right-To-Know law.
Prepares correspondence, answers telephone calls, and responds to requests, ensuring adherence to the timeliness constraints as set forth by RSA 91-A.
Redacts all requested materials (written documents / digital evidence) in compliance with current laws, under the supervision of staff counsel.
Manages centralized repository for tracking Right-To-Know requests, and coordinates with Department personnel in collecting pertinent records.
Navigates through past and present Department records management systems and submitting requests through appropriate archive repositories as necessary.
Assists with the on-going training by the Legal Unit to Department staff to ensure best practices for staying compliant with RSA 91-A.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1.5 Years of additional relevant experience = Associate's Degree
3 Years of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's Degree
4.5 Years additional relevant experience = Master's Degree
Education : Associate's degree or two years of college with a major study in law, paralegal studies, or a related legal field, or a paralegal certificate from a certified paralegal program. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three years' experience in legal research, legal investigative, paralegal work, criminal justice or an area which provided experience with legal terminology, with at least one year at the level of Paralegal I. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
License/Certification:None required
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidate will undergo a fingerprint based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.
