Revenue Cycle Director directs and oversees the overall policies, objectives, and initiatives of an organization's revenue cycle activities to optimize the patient financial interaction along the care continuum. Reviews, designs, and implements processes surrounding admissions, pricing, billing, third party payer relationships, compliance, collections, and other financial analyses to ensure that clinical revenue cycle is effective and properly utilized. Being a Revenue Cycle Director tracks numerous metrics related to the patient engagement cycle including record coding error rates and billing turnaround times to develop sound revenue cycle analysis and reporting. Manages relations with payers and providers to generate high reimbursement rates and a low level of denials. Additionally, Revenue Cycle Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Revenue Cycle Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Revenue Cycle Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Revenue Cycle Manager

    About the Position:

    • Oversee all fee-for-service billing within the revenue cycle.
    • Educate providers on proper coding and charting information as needed.
    • Ensure all services rendered are being reported and payment is captured appropriately.
    • Advise, assist, and educate program intake staff on insurance related topics.
    • Stay up to date on industry standards including, but not limited to, coding and billing
    • Complete provider and new payer credentialing, enrollment, and contracting needs.
    • Provide monthly reports to management:
      • AR Days - Time it takes between services rendered to receipt of payment compared to industry standard of under 27 days
      • Ensure insurance aging outstanding accounts receivable industry standards are being met: 60 <12%
      • Denial analysis
      • Charges and claims month-to-date
    •  Present annual reporting and analysis to providers and management and make recommendations:
      • Average revenue per visit, per program
      • Gross collection and ratios
      • Productivity trends
      • Time of service collection ratios
      • Charges & payments monthly totals and trends
      • Timely filing review and reporting
      • Other lost revenue reporting
    • Review charts of services ready to be billed. Ensure all charting is completed and matches services billed.
    • Preview and work claims paid in full or adjusted in full.
    • Sign-up and utilize EFT and ERA when applicable.
    • Work insurance credit balances for overpayments. Initiate refund requests as appropriate.
    • Work weekly unbilled charges report
      • Send to individual providers or supervisors for chart completion.
    • Manage, oversee, and report on duties of the Program Management Team listed below
      • Grant based reporting and invoicing
      • CIS billing and support
      • Residential Room and Board billing and support
      • RPP support
      • Adoption and Post Permanency support
      • Enter ADAP claims into STATIS reporting portal.
      • Post insurance payments as they are deposited in the bank and balance payments after entry.
      • Work insurance denials and appeals and correct as necessary
      • Review and work insurance mail including refund requests and record requests
      • Fee schedule maintenance - monthly
    • Self pay billing responsibilities
      • Collect any member responsibility outstanding after insurance
      • Unpaid balance phone calls and mailing when necessary
      • Assess family ability to pay status based on sliding scale
      • Manage incoming patient billing questions
      • Turn unpaid over to collections
    • Annual pricing review and maintenance
    • Manage and update billing configurations as needed
    • Assist providers in meeting quality benchmarks and enrolling in available payer incentive programs.
    • Additional duties may include:
    • Enroll new payers in electronic claim submission (837) and electronic remit files (835)
    • Identify areas for efficiency, find solutions, document, and implement changes.
    • Assist and collaborate on EHR conversion and workflow efficiency.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Associate degree and five years of coding and billing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required.
    • Experience with behavioral and mental health billing and payer contracting is preferred.
    • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position either with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Ability to maintain a valid VT Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation. Occasional statewide travel may be required.
    • Upon conditional offer of employment, must be able to successfully pass a background check.
