Revenue Cycle Director directs and oversees the overall policies, objectives, and initiatives of an organization's revenue cycle activities to optimize the patient financial interaction along the care continuum. Reviews, designs, and implements processes surrounding admissions, pricing, billing, third party payer relationships, compliance, collections, and other financial analyses to ensure that clinical revenue cycle is effective and properly utilized. Being a Revenue Cycle Director tracks numerous metrics related to the patient engagement cycle including record coding error rates and billing turnaround times to develop sound revenue cycle analysis and reporting. Manages relations with payers and providers to generate high reimbursement rates and a low level of denials. Additionally, Revenue Cycle Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Revenue Cycle Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Revenue Cycle Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Revenue Cycle Management at BJC HealthCare starts from the time a patient makes an appointment and continues until his or her account is paid. It includes the scheduling, insurance authorization and registration of patients, and ends with coding claims for insurance and finally billing and collecting payments. It bridges the gap between the clinical and business sides of health care and provides patients and families with a seamless and easy process when moving through the health care system.

    Role Purpose

    Plans, organizes, directs and owns the core revenue cycle functions within a center of excellence across multiple hospitals. Directing day to day operations for multiple hospitals, governing the structure within revenue cycle management and producing collaborative teams to implement systems that strive for continuous improvement. Produces business results through management, benchmarking and financial analysis of patient accounting.

     

    Responsibilities

  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: onboarding and hiring, training, workload management & performance evaluations, conducting professional development plans as needed. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Provide patient financial services direction within multiple hospitals, ensuring services provided meet the needs of customers through timely and accurate revenue cycle operations.
  • Develops and implements programs and work plans to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the Central Business Office and for revenue cycle management process redesign.
  • Provides expert in-house consultation to managed care on operations and collections issues as they relate to contract negotiations.
  • Ensures operations are efficient and in compliance with federal and state regulations and managed care contracts.
  • Develop and maintain processes to identify payments and denial trends and develop appropriate responses to such trends.
