Status & Classification:    Regular | Full-Time | Non-Exempt

Payrate:    $24/hour ~ $27/hour (depending on experience)

Work Schedule:    Tuesday ~ Saturday* | 8:30am ~ 5:30pm* | 40 hours/week

*This position must accommodate a flexible work schedule for special events, evenings, holidays, and occasional overnight/out-of-town travel.

Summary

The Museum Store Manager will be responsible for maximizing the guest experience and helping meet annual financial goals by providing excellent products and services for the Museum's retail store. This position supports the organizational mission by ensuring exemplary customer service standards for visitors, managing day-to-day store operations, and generating sales revenues. This Museum Store Manager is critical to the success of the Museum's retail operation by increasing profitability, managing Associates, and providing the highest level of customer care. This position reports directly to the Director of Guest Experience and works closely with the Visitor Services Manager, Museum Store Buyer, Visitor Services/Store Associates, and other inter-departmental teams including Marketing, Corporate Events, Development, etc.

Founded in 1994 on the former Lowry Air Force Base in east Denver's historic Lowry Field neighborhood, Wings Over the Rockies is a non-profit community organization dedicated to unlocking dreams of flight through exhibits, local events, and educational programming. We are Colorado’s premier Air & Space Museum having been recognized by CNN Travel as one of their 20 Best aviation museums in the world. Exploration of Flight (EoF) is our flight-focused educational extension. This 15-acre campus is located at the Centennial Airport where we offer showcase events with a variety of aircraft, aviation immersion programs, pilot ground training, and flight experiences. EoF is home to our Blue Sky Gallery exhibit and interactive aviation center featuring an airworthy fleet of civilian and military aircraft.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Execute vital Museum store functions including long-range planning and day-to-day operations, sales and inventory management, and loss prevention strategies
• Manage the overall look and feel of the Museum store with attractive visual merchandising, mission- and brand-related promotions, and general shop upkeep
• Forecast weekly, monthly and year-end revenue, store sales performance, and create new models and methodologies to improve those forecasts
• Participate in the creation of stable sales and profit margins including forecasting, tracking, and analytics
• Manage, motivate, and coach the Visitor Services team on sales and guest service best practices
• Assist with recruiting, hiring, and training Visitor Services staff as needed including daily supervision of Associates
• Work with the Visitor Services Manager to maintain the shift schedule and ensure adequate coverage based on business needs
• Demonstrate outstanding customer care by exceeding the expectations of Museum guests
• Maintain proper cash handing procedures, e.g. change orders, deposits, reconciling drawers, verifying transactions, etc.
• Coordinate with the Museum Store Buyer on acquisition of new or custom merchandise and re-ordering of best sellers
• Generate monthly sales reports in the POS system (Altru) including trends and forecasts
• Track orders, shipments/inventory received, invoice processing, consignment agreements, etc.
• Inventory and pricing management, e.g. profit margins, markups/discounts, shipping and freight fees, merchandise sourcing, quality control, loss prevention tactics, etc.
• Coordinate with the Marketing department to promote new arrivals and the Museum Shop in general
• Organize special events for the Museum Shop including trunk shows, book signings, artisan demos, etc.

Working Conditions

Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum operates within an 80-year-old aircraft hangar. Exploration of Flight is located at a busy regional airport. Environmental conditions may vary.

Requirements

• 4-year degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field (highly preferred)
• At least 3 years of experience in retail buying and/or retail management experience
• Demonstrates sound judgement, a high degree of professionalism, respect for confidentiality, and an outstanding record of accomplishment curating and merchandising desirable retail inventories
• Working knowledge of Altru (Blackbaud) is highly preferred
• Proven experience with accurately handling cash and register duties
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, inventory management software, and other computer software applications
• Financial acumen with expertise in planning and strategy; able to analyze sales data to make informed decisions
• Advanced inventory, merchandising, accounting, and budget management skills
• Successful track record of developing attractive visual displays
• Extraordinary customer service skills with a strong public relations background
• Able to communicate effectively about products and engage customers in a positive, welcoming, and outgoing manner
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, negotiation, interpersonal, planning, and organizational abilities
• Must be able to effectively train, oversee colleagues, and lead by example
• Attention to detail, highly self-motivated, capable of working individually, must be a team player
• Able to multi-task and communicate in noisy, crowded, or stressful environments
• Able to walk 100,000 sq. ft. of floor space and stand for up to 8 hours in all (cold/hot/wet/humid/dry) conditions
• Must be able to push, pull, squat, and lift 50 lbs.
• Familiarity with the non-profit mission of Wings Museum including exhibits and programs
• Must have a valid Driver’s License and clean motor vehicle record (MVR)
