Description of Position:
Performs a variety of duties related to driver education, driver observation and training, liaison with parents, teachers, and principals. Interfaces with drivers and supervisors in order to provide efficient, economical, and safe transportation for students.
Qualities:
Training and leadership skills, patience, highly organized, excellent communicator and capable of adapting to individual learning styles. Prior experience in this role is preferred.
Requirements:
Possess a CDL type A or B with air brakes, Passenger and School Bus endorsements and a very good driving record
?Pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to random drug and alcohol testing
?Proficient in administering Entry Level Driver Training ELDT preferred
?Available to perform training within a reasonable time frame
Minimum of 5 years of school transportation experience preferred
Proficient with the use of technology
Knowledgeable in rules and regulations governing pupil transportation
?Available to attend training as directed by the District
Job Duties:
Training and evaluation of potential new drivers for VBISD and local districts.
Training,re-training and monitoring of drivers.
Substitute driving or monitoring any route when needed.
Administration of the Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) program
Prepare all reports as necessary.
Provide assistance to drivers and monitors with behavior modification.
Evaluate and assist with special education needs.
Schedule routes along with on-site, stop and route review.
Provide a positive image for Van Buren ISD and model Respect, Integrity, Excellence and Compassion
Assist in student education programming.
Act as liaison between driver and monitor for schools, parents, and supervisor.
Assist drivers and monitors in writing up accident reports, disciplinary forms, incident reports, and route descriptions.
Assist drivers in finding their own solutions for problems.
Able to diffuse crisis situations.
Prepare all reports as necessary.
Attend necessary classes and seminars related to training.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
Regular and reliable, in person attendance.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking.
This position requires occasional lifting.
Work takes place both indoors and outdoors.
Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
