    POSITION PURPOSE:
    Manage, lead, and direct the Construction and Facilities Maintenance departments to provide “best in industry” support to the approximately 175 El Pollo Loco company operated restaurants in terms of service, responsiveness, quality and cleanliness, while operating within the departmental budget. Radically re-think approach to both Facilities and Construction to drive significant value engineering that drives more productive and profitable restaurants.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Facilities Department
    • Lead, manage and establish strategic direction for the Facilities Department and define the annual goals and objectives.
    • Serve as the single person accountable for the Facilities Department team in managing communications, coordination and implementation.
    • Lead the relationships with outside vendors and hold them accountable with a continuous improvement on cost and service. Negotiate vendor and supplier contracts for EPL facilities and services to contribute to the company operating margins and profitability.
    • Design, develop and document work systems and processes that ensure maximum productivity and effectiveness of the restaurant level support and the department.
    • Team up with the Operations Department and the Director of Company Operations to assure the highest possible standards and efficiencies for maintenance and operations.
    • Accountable for the preparation and management of Facilities Department budget and all related spending: Facilities Capital Budget, Restaurant Repair and Expense Budget, and Capital/Special Project Budget.
    • Monitor and evaluate restaurant utility usage and billings. Research and recommend alternative utility providers to reduce costs.
    Construction
    • Work with A&D and C/D Project Director to execute the work on all new builds.
    • Work with A&D and C/D Project Director to execute the work on all new builds.
    • Work with CDO, A&D and C/D Project Director and Franchise Partners to value engineer building and remodel costs.
    • Provide franchisee assistance and information to franchisees regarding facilities related issues.
    Leadership
    • Recruit, supervise, train and direct the Facilities Department team.
    • Work closely with outside/contract vendors for maintenance and continually review model.
    • Work closely with the outside/contract CM/PMs on projects and determine if this model is most effective vs. in-house.
    • Work closely with internal Construction/Design Project Director and Architecture and Design Director (TBH).
    Safety and Emergency Preparedness
    • Review the current emergency preparedness procedures and revise as appropriate.
    • Develop systems and processes ensuring compliance with; Health Department, OSHA, Building and Safety, Fire, and Waste Management for the El Pollo Loco restaurants.
    Other
    • Responsible for Corporate and Support Center Facilities Management including equipment, office furniture, and relocation of office staff as needed.
    • Lead the Facilities Team and Operations through training classes and seminars, for continuous improvement of the restaurant facilities.
    • Manage all company owned properties and closed non-operating restaurants. Ensuring that each property meets community and Landlord standards.
    QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

    Education/Work Experience:
    High school diploma/GED required, BS in Engineering or Construction Management preferred; Minimum 10 plus years related multi-unit facilities and project management experience in restaurant/retail/hospitality required. Proficiency at budgeting, plan review, construction cost accounting, and management of vendors/contractors. Experience in preparing business plans and presenting departmental plans and initiatives.

    License/Certifications:
    Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Excellent oral communication skills.
    • Ability to prepare and/or edit written communication using appropriate grammar/spelling.
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to function effectively while performing multiple tasks.
    • Ability to work under tight deadlines.
    • Must be detail oriented and highly motivated with the ability to set and achieve goals and objectives.
    • Ability to exercise independent judgment on matters of significance to the company.
    • Ability to work weekends and extended work schedules as needed.
    • Must be willing and able to travel locally within Southern California and to out-of-state restaurant locations, as needed by car or airplane.

    The pay range identified is the hourly or salary rate El Pollo Loco expects to pay for the posted position. This range does not include any benefits or bonus opportunities that might be available for the position based on position and eligibility criteria.
