Respiratory Therapy Director directs the programs and staff of the respiratory therapy department. Oversees the provision of diagnostic, treatment, and educational services for patients with respiratory disorders. Being a Respiratory Therapy Director develops and implements respiratory care services in accordance with the policies of the hospital and the directives of the medical staff. Monitors patient progress and treatment plans. Additionally, Respiratory Therapy Director manages departmental budgets and reports, and maintains department records and statistics. Requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires Registered Respiratory Therapist. The Respiratory Therapy Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR FCMC:


    Our Respiratory Therapists are an important position that provides cardiopulmonary care to our patients, ranging from newborns to geriatrics. More specifically, the Respiratory Therapists’ responsibilities include:

    • Administering oxygen and other non-anesthetic gases to patients by various methods, including intermittent positive pressure, CPAP, BiPAP, and mechanical ventilation
    • Conducting pulmonary function tests
    • Performing arterial punctures and conducting blood gas determinations
    • Instructing patients and others in proper use and maintenance of equipment
    • Setting up electrocardiograms and holter monitors
    • Scheduling sleep studies and other tests
    • Keeping records of treatments and patient changes
    • Following Doctor orders, department policies and procedures, and tasks assigned by the Respiratory Therapy Manager
    • Ensuring the annual N95 fit testing for clinical staff


    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Licensed by the National Board of Respiratory Care
    • Current Idaho Respiratory Therapy License
    • Current BLS and ACLS required
    • 1-2 years of Respiratory Therapy experience in a hospital is preferred 
    • Working knowledge of Respiratory Therapy, healthcare safety, state and federal regulations, and regulatory processes
    • Good communication skills both written and oral in English
    • Ability to manage, support, and work cooperatively with individuals and committees
    • Ability to multitask and prioritize


    Essential Job Functions:

    • Regular and predictable attendance is required
    • Regularly required to move around the office; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
    • Continuously performs skills using a keyboard and computer monitor
    • Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and push or pull up to 100 pounds
    • Regularly required to operate medical equipment
    • Able to lift or carry up to 35 pounds, occasionally able to lift or carry up to 50 pounds
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
    • Must comply with HIPAA and patient privacy
    • Must wear PPE when situations require


    Work Environment:

    • FCMC operates 24 hours per day each day of the year: operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the patients
    • Potential exposure to blood, body tissue and fluids, contagious diseases, and hazardous waste
    • May be required to work day or night in a confined environment or variation of different temperatures
