Respiratory Therapy Director directs the programs and staff of the respiratory therapy department. Oversees the provision of diagnostic, treatment, and educational services for patients with respiratory disorders. Being a Respiratory Therapy Director develops and implements respiratory care services in accordance with the policies of the hospital and the directives of the medical staff. Monitors patient progress and treatment plans. Additionally, Respiratory Therapy Director manages departmental budgets and reports, and maintains department records and statistics. Requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires Registered Respiratory Therapist. The Respiratory Therapy Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Brief Description of Duties

    The University of the District of Columbia is a public land grant institution of higher learning dedicated to providing quality, career focused undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to launch, enhance, or change careers. The Department of Nursing, Allied Health, Life and Physical Science at the University of the District of Columbia Community College invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in the Respiratory Therapy Program at this HBCU in the Nation’s capital.
    Incumbents must teach all assigned classes and hours as determined by semester course schedule; Incumbents will be required to prepare and deliver relevant curriculum to students in the respiratory therapy program using a variety of teaching methods to include, but not limited to, lecture, class discussion, demonstration labs/clinical, and projects.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Teaches assigned courses as specified in respiratory therapy, including the lectures associated with clinical experiences
    • Collaborates with the Program Director and DCE to assure adequacy of laboratory supplies and equipment
    • Advises students and evaluate evidenced-based student learning outcomes
    • Participates in department, college and university committees
    • Assess program effectiveness and assist in the curriculum development.
    • Submits additional assignments as per Program Director
    • Maintains close interactions among all students enrolled in the program.
    • Conducts a minimum of five office hours per week using DataArc to record student's competencies and participation in lab/clinical
    • Adheres to college and program policies and procedures
    • Participates fully in curriculum development and revision
    • Renders textbook and other instructional material recommendations

    Minimum Job Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) from an accredited college/university;
    • Applicant must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist who is licensed by the District of Columbia, or eligible
    • Minimum of two years clinical experience
    • Two years of  academic or clinical teaching experience

    Collective Bargaining Unit: Dependent upon certain criteria, this position may be eligible for representation and require payment of union fees through direct payroll deduction.
