Residential Care Medical Director plans and directs all aspects of clinical care at an assisted living or skilled nursing facility. Ensures that clinical programs operate in compliance with all applicable regulations. Being a Residential Care Medical Director provides patient consultations as needed and manages relationships between staff and attending physicians. Advises non-medical management on clinical and patient related matters and policies. Additionally, Residential Care Medical Director requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Requires a state license to practice medicine. Typically reports to top management. The Residential Care Medical Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Residential Care Medical Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Job Summary: Provide management of direct care to residents following an individual service plan. Have effective communication to families, residents, and medical professionals to promote a homelike atmosphere throughout the residence.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Ensure that resident activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring and getting to and from activities and meals according to the individual service plan are completed and documented to completion daily. Allow and encourage residents to do as much of their own care as possible.
    • Ensure POAHC/ residents are updated with any changes daily. Provides main communication to families and residents and gives update to administrator.
    • Acts as representative for the community when administrator is out of the building. Provides effective and complete communication to family members, staff, and medical professionals daily. Director is responsible for tours, follow-up from admissions and overall reporting and documenting at community.
    • Schedules all team members for shifts and ensures the residents have adequate staffing to meet their needs daily. The Director will be on call and available at all times to assist and answer questions 24/7 unless on vacation.
    • Maintains residents’ and staff records daily in accordance with company policy and procedures. This includes documentation related to residents include medication distribution, leisure activities, incidents, and observations, charting any changes in resident’s physical condition and/or behavior; visitors; etc. Observes and documents the health and emotional condition of each resident, and promptly reports all changes to the supervisor. For staff this includes Wage, starting and end date, vacation, training, TB test, background checks, and employee discipline.
    • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly environment for the residents.
    • Follows proper procedures in emergency situations and responds promptly and positively to resident requests for assistance – including emergency pull cords, telephone calls, and requests from family and friends.
    • Knows the location of each resident, reminds them to sign out when they leave the building and notifies the supervisor immediately if unable to locate a resident.
    • Encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers.

    • Complies with attendance policy.
    • Maintains a neat appearance, good personal hygiene, and appropriate attire.
    • Participates in training, in services and attends meetings as required.
    • Alert Administrator of any caregiver misconduct, abuse or neglect of residents.
    • Accept additional duties delegated by our Registered Nurse. Proper training will be provided by our Registered Nurse, Hospice, Hospital or Home Health Agencies.

    Qualifications:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE- High school diploma or general education degree

    (GED); and three to six month related experience preferred and/or training in direct service with older adults, or equivalent combination of education and experience. In accordance with state law, may need to possess current state certification and follow regulations to maintain license currency. Knowledge of dementia particularly of the Alzheimer’s type is helpful.

    • LANGUAGE SKILLS- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents, residents families and other employees of the company.
    • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement, volume, and distance.
    • REASONING ABILITY- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems

    • involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Uses good judgment in emergency situations, and gets help when needed.
    • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS- Basic CPR/First aid training, Fire safety training, Medication Administration training, participate in in-service sessions, and medication assistance training course and test.
    • PHYSICAL DEMANDS- The physical demands here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. A good sense of smell is required to keep our residents and room’s odor free.
    • WORK ENVIRONMENT-The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to blood borne pathogens. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and toxic or caustic chemical.
