Residential Care Facility Construction Director oversees all aspects of new construction or additions to existing assisted living or skilled nursing facilities. Selects and monitors the work of architects, engineers and contractors. Being a Residential Care Facility Construction Director ensures that projects are completed according to schedule and within budget. General Laborer - Residential Construction

  • Great Lakes Construction Services is looking to hire a full-time laborer for work in the field of residential construction.

    Reporting to our Director of Operations or a Job Site Supervisor, this position is primarily responsible for demolition of walls, ceilings and floors if found proficient. The position will also provide other field support such as debris removal and job site clean up/maintenance as needed.

    Under immediate supervision, this position performs routine tasks involved in a variety of general labor and clean-up projects. These tasks include strenuous physical labor such as moving materials/furniture, job site cleaning/maintenance. This position may require you to operate select power tools or equipment to be determined on a project-by-project basis.

    You will be paid every two weeks.

    EXAMPLE TASKS:

    Strenuous physical tasks

    • Performs any of a variety of tasks involving physical strength and agility, including digging holes/trenches, or operating chipping hammers, reciprocating saws, hand tools, or grinders
    • Dismantles structures such as bleachers, fences, stands, backstops, guard rails
    • Assists trade workers or technicians by performing simple routine tasks such as pulling nails from lumber, carrying materials, or lifting heavy components or parts

    Site clean up/maintenance

    • Dumps barrels of construction debris into dumpster, or shovels dirt and rubbish into trucks
    • Rakes leaves, shovels and/or removes snow and spreads salt
    • Sweeps, dust, waxes, or mops floors, stairs, woodwork, walls, windows as needed

    Lift/ Load/Transport materials and equipment

    • Picks up and delivers equipment, supplies, mail, and materials
    • Loads, unloads, wraps, stacks and otherwise prepares items for transport or for use
    • Helps move heavy objects, such as stones, furniture, machinery, and construction materials

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school graduation or G.E.D.
    • State issued driver’s license
    • Daily access to reliable transportation

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

    One year of experience preferred in one or more of the following task areas:

    • Performing strenuous labor duties
    • Residential Construction or other construction field

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

    • Read and write English and to understand and follow oral instructions
    • Communicate verbally and in writing
    • Perform all the duties of the classification, even in inclement weather
    • Work effectively as part of a workgroup/team
    • Display physical strength, alertness, mechanical aptitude, and industry on the job
    • Interact effectively with coworkers, leaders, and the public

    DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

    • Work is performed indoors or outdoors, with exposure to seasonal weather conditions and varieties of people
    • Work frequently involves periods of intense physical effort including lifting and operating tools and objects weighing up to 90 pounds, walking significant distances, and moving debris or other heavy objects
    • Tasks and work locations may vary and change
