    Organizational Information

Wellpoint Care Network has been a community anchor for nearly 175 years. We’ve been a local, human services provider for nearly as long as Milwaukee has existed as a city. What began as caring for children who lost parents to the cholera epidemic, has blossomed into an array of services for children, youth, adults, and families.

Since trauma is at the core of so many hurdles for so many people, we have made Trauma Informed Care central to our work. We started adopting Trauma Informed Care practices well over a decade ago in child welfare services. Soon, Trauma Informed Care became much more than a practice area – it is an organizational philosophy infused across our continuum of care.

Wellpoint Care also works to promote a diverse and caregiving environment to ensure that those we serve, and employ are valued, accepted, respected, and treated equitably. More than a decade ago, as we began our commitment to providing care that is trauma-informed and based on the neuroscience of adversity, it became clear that many in our community have endured significant, historical trauma. Without equity, no number of services can bring healing and true opportunity to the people we serve. We feel a responsibility to not only deliver high-quality, accessible services, but to remedy inequities in our systems and communities.

Wellpoint Care Network provides a rich continuum of services, including:

    • Child Welfare and Foster Care
    • Support for youth who have aged out of care
    • Care Coordination
    • Mental health therapy and supports such as our Clinic, Family Preservation, Caregiver Support, and Integrated Community Treatment
    • Professional education and clinical consultation (for organizations, schools, and individual/family)

Milwaukee lies along the shores and bluffs of Lake Michigan at the confluence of three rivers: the Menomonee, the Kinnickinnic, and the Milwaukee. Smaller rivers, such as the Root River and Lincoln Creek, also flow through the city. Milwaukee's terrain is sculpted by the glacier path and includes steep bluffs along Lake Michigan that begin about a mile (1.6 km) north of downtown. In addition, 30 miles (48 km) southwest of Milwaukee is the Kettle Moraine and lake country that provides an industrial landscape combined with inland lakes.
