Organizational Information
Wellpoint Care Network has been a community anchor for nearly 175 years. We’ve been a local, human services provider for nearly as long as Milwaukee has existed as a city. What began as caring for children who lost parents to the cholera epidemic, has blossomed into an array of services for children, youth, adults, and families.
Since trauma is at the core of so many hurdles for so many people, we have made Trauma Informed Care central to our work. We started adopting Trauma Informed Care practices well over a decade ago in child welfare services. Soon, Trauma Informed Care became much more than a practice area – it is an organizational philosophy infused across our continuum of care.
Wellpoint Care also works to promote a diverse and caregiving environment to ensure that those we serve, and employ are valued, accepted, respected, and treated equitably. More than a decade ago, as we began our commitment to providing care that is trauma-informed and based on the neuroscience of adversity, it became clear that many in our community have endured significant, historical trauma. Without equity, no number of services can bring healing and true opportunity to the people we serve. We feel a responsibility to not only deliver high-quality, accessible services, but to remedy inequities in our systems and communities.
