Job Title: Retail Supervisor
General Definition: Responsible for coordinating the activities of the operations and
staff components of the gift shop operations toward the achievement of established objectives.
Supervision Received: Marketing Manager
Supervision Exercised: Retail Department
Essential Job Functions:
• Ensure vendor relationships are developed and maintained for the profitability of gift shop operations.
• Management and oversight of merchandising function to ensure that stock is profitable.
• Participate in the negotiation of contracts with vendors.
• Manage the inventory control function to ensure the accuracy of inventory on hand as well as profitable inventory levels are maintained.
• Participate in the development and implementation of site development and remodeling plans.
• Attend frequent local, regional, and national trade shows to research and evaluate new products and business ideas.
• Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships to maximize current assets and future profits.
• Responsible for the selection of merchandise to ensure that inventory best suited for customer demographics and the image of the gift shops is maintained.
• Responsible to direct gift shop profitability in partnership with facility general management as appropriate.
• Read and interpret financial data and make appropriate recommendations for strategic direction of gift shop in partnership with facility general management as appropriate.
• Consistent periodic analysis of staff capacity needs, recommending to management when additional staff is necessary
• Consistent periodic written performance reviews of each subordinate to inform them of their strengths and weaknesses, and how to build on the strengths and work to supplement the weaknesses.
• Create and maintain a productive, fun and innovative work environment for subordinates.
• Manage the gift store pricing strategy along with gift store promotions.
• Responsible for supervising and directing all gift store business strategy.
• Anticipate changing customer needs within the dynamic hospitality/gaming environment.
• Closely monitor customer flow to ensure the capacity is adequate to meet guest volume.
• Attempt to resolve significant problems to the satisfaction of the guest and in the best interest of Golden Mesa.
• Handle complaints and render decisions tactfully.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to understand inventory process is essential for this position.
• Ability to supervise at least ten employees at any given time.
• Must be able to demonstrate understanding of financial statements and sales, profit, and loss of retail businesses.
• Present broad-based business acumen and understanding.
• Ability to act with sense of urgency.
• Excellent interpersonal, business partnership, team building, and leadership skills required.
• Must be a trusted and trustworthy member of the Golden Mesa Casino team, as well as an excellent role model and representative of the people of the Shawnee Tribe.
• Ability to be able to address large groups through presentations and/or speeches
• Proficient computer knowledge; including, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
• Must be able to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Must be able to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be able to travel for extended times.
• Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints
• Must be able to work in a smoke filled casino environment
Training and Experience:
• Three (3) years of retail operations experience to include merchandising required
• Two (2) years retail management experience required
• Experience managing a staff of at least three people is required
Licenses/Certifications/Other:
• Must be able to pass a background check and receive/maintain a license or permit from the Shawnee Tribe Gaming Commission
• Must be able to complete pre-employment drug test with a negative result
