Welfare Research, Inc. (d/b/a WRI Solutions) is seeking one (1) qualified candidate to fill the full-time position at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for the Bureau of Administration, Division of Mental Hygiene – Professional Development Manager.
Bureau & Program Description:
The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is one of the largest public health agencies in the world. From monitoring food safety and disease outbreaks to establishing and maintaining health clinics in at-risk neighborhoods, DOHMH is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of all New Yorkers. Moreover, it works to address enduring health inequities—problems that affect certain communities more than others.
This position is located at DOHMH, within the Division of Mental Hygiene, Bureau of Administration.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Workforce Support, the Professional Development Manager will primarily be responsible for leading orientation, training, monitoring and evaluation of apprentices, interns and fellows placed in the Division of Mental Hygiene. In addition, the candidate will provide professional development support to the rest of the staff in the Division of Mental Hygiene, as requested.
Duties and responsibilities include:
· Oversee the advertising, recruitment, and selection processes for the newly created DOHMH Public Health Fellowship, which is a competitive, 9–12-month, full-time, paid fellowship for people with lived experience with the criminal legal system. Fellows will be granted opportunities for professional development, skill-building, networking, and learning more about a public health area of interest through hands-on experience.
· Create standardized documents/policies for program implementation and evaluation
· Provide tailored onboarding, technical assistance and support, and training to interns and Fellows
· Develop tools for evaluating and monitoring job performance and program efficacy
· Administer pre- and post-Fellowship surveys
· Evaluate Fellow work products (e.g., presentations) at end of Fellowship
· Conduct monthly check-ins with Fellow supervisors and mentors, as applicable
· Conduct bi-weekly check-ins with Fellows
· Identify and share public health seminars, workshops, and events that would contribute to trainees’ professional development
Minimum Qualifications:
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in
community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties
described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community
work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described
above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However,
all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

· Supportive management and mentorship experience (problem-solving, planning, and leadership within a team/group)
· Program management skills
· A passion for social justice, public health, criminal legal system reform, and human rights advocacy
· Experience working with a diverse team and responsiveness to differing ethnic, racial, and cultural background, gender identities, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic conditions
· Lived experience of the criminal legal system
· Spanish language proficiency
· Skills in evaluation, data analysis, and visualization
