Roles & Responsibilities:

• Interact with customers to predict future requirements and develop key technologies consistent with long term proprietary strategic position.
• Evaluate new technologies through research and test, including attendance of industry symposiums, seminars, and conferences.
• Support research and grant proposals creation for submittal to research sponsors and customers.
• Integral team member leading R&D project tasks to plan, on time and within budget for all Sargent product lines.
• Conduct research through application of sound theory, engineering principles, analytical models (stress, FEA, fatigue, performance) and apply problem-solving methods to support new product development and/or sustaining production of existing designs.
• Design prototype components and test fixtures to advance development of new technology, and communicate design intent.
• Write test plans and test reports in support of prototype component and assembly testing, maintaining accurate design and test data records.
• Summarize R&D results and communicate findings to management and customers.
• Support intellectual property strategy with unique and patentable ideas demonstrated by test and implemented in new product designs.
• Establish new technology readiness through appropriate development tests with documentation to enable design team application.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Mechatronics Engineering.
• 8 years of aerospace and defense industry design and customer experience. Lower levels of experience combined with an advanced degree may be considered.
• Ability to investigate, diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges in a team environment and communicate results in clear simple terms with minimal direction.
• Successful experience in an R&D and/or product engineering environment.
• Demonstrated experience in solving complex engineering challenges in a concurrent team environment.
• Demonstrated experience with advanced design and manufacturing processes.
• Proficient working knowledge of 3D modeling software (CREO preferred), and 3D stress analysis software or computational fluid dynamics.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and MS Office.
• Up to 15% travel
• US Citizenship mandatory, security clearance a plus.
• Attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of this job

Preferred Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Hydraulic design with challenging acoustic requirements.
• Experience with vibration data acquisition and analysis.
• Hydraulics experience including design and development of hydraulic and/or electromechanical components including actuators, control valves, manifolds.
• Design and/or system experience with aerospace hybrid electro hydraulic systems.
• Substantial ANSYS and CREO experience.
• Additive manufacturing experience and/or training including design methodology, process controls, and customer qualification.
• Mechanical hands-on aptitude displayed through personal hobbies/projects.
