Research and Development Director directs and implements an organization's research and development policies, objectives, and initiatives. Ensures research and development activities will maintain an organization's competitive position and profitability. Being a Research and Development Director consults with top management and research and development team and makes recommendations based on research findings and product performance. May require an advanced degree. Additionally, Research and Development Director typically reports to top management. The Research and Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. The Manhattan Institute for Policy Research (MI) is a community of scholars, journalists, activists, and civic leaders who are united by a shared commitment to advancing economic opportunity, individual liberty, and the rule of law in America and its great cities.
The Institute has a small team of high-performing development professionals who are MI’s primary fundraisers. Members of this team act as ambassadors for MI by soliciting contributions, researching new donors, and maintaining relationships with MI’s supporters.
The Development Officer should be deeply interested in public policy at the national, state, and local levels, and want to help MI raise financial resources. This role is ideal for someone who is keenly analytical and able to maintain and build new relationships for MI that advance the Institute’s mission. Applicants should thrive in entrepreneurial, creative, and fast-paced environments. The Development Officer is required to be a speaker, thinker, and writer who can articulate the value of MI scholars’ projects and goals to audiences of sophisticated, policy-savvy supporters.
The Development Officer can be based in MI’s New York City office or a virtual office. The Officer will travel up to 40% of their time for donor meetings.
