A postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the laboratory of CNS Injury and Molecular Therapy at the JFK Neuroscience Institute, Hackensack Meridian Health JFK University Medical Center, Edison, New Jersey. We are seeking a talented, driven and intellectually curious individual to study the molecular mechanisms behind the constraints in neuronal regeneration in traumatic brain injury (TBI), and alcohol use disorder (AUD), and to develop effective therapeutic strategies to enhance recovery from these neurological disorders. We utilize in vivo (rodent) models of TBI and AUD and various experimental approaches including AAV-mediated gene transfer, survival animal surgeries, in vitro stretch injury and a wide array of cellular and molecular methodologies including flow cytometry, western blotting, immunohisto/cytochemistry, qPCR, ELISA, ChIP and gene knockdown/knockout. The applicant is expected to have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently. S/he should be able to write technical reports, manuscripts, and related materials independently for conference presentations and journal publications. Accurate record keeping and attention to detail are exceedingly important.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. and/or M.D in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related field. Training in Molecular Neurobiology is desirable. Candidates are expected to have a strong background and demonstrated experience working with experimental rodent models and mammalian cell culture. Experience in rodent surgery (especially stereotactic surgery, perfusion etc), western blotting, histology, immunohisto/cytochemistry, ELISA, qPCR, CRISPR/Cas9 gene deletion technology, and gene transfer are desired.
