JOB SUMMARY :
The Aviation General Assignment Reporter creates a high volume of general aviation digital journalism for all AOPA media channels - including online, magazines, video, audio, and social media.
The ideal candidate can report and write accurate, engaging stories in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and juggle multiple deadlines, ranging from daily to monthly;
easily adapt to a changing media landscape; and produce the right content for the right medium.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES :
Report on breaking aviation and industry news for online, social media, and print consumption.Create fun, inspirational, and educational content about the people, aircraft, and airports that make general aviation so appealing to members.
Deepen our connection with members through outstanding and engaging stories for AOPA's newsletters and magazines.Reach the next generation of pilots by utilizing the latest media trends and practices, including social media and action cameras.
Work may be performed in an office setting or outdoors in various weather conditions.Working hours are typically Monday - Friday from 8 : 30 am to 5 pm.
Position requires travel in aircraft and to aircraft events approximately 25% of the incumbent's time.PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
The position requires sedentary work (sitting most of the time with no adverse environmental exposure) and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and / or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
The employee in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS :
Bachelor's degree in English or Journalism required.Minimum of three years of professional, journalistic writing experience.
Demonstrated ability to easily adapt writing styles for each media channel.Ability to learn and work in content management systems.
The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of aviation experience, including knowledge about how to use general aviation aircraft for personal and business missions.
