Director/Coordinator of Religious Education (DRE)

- Salaried or Hourly, commensurate on experience.
- Position to be filled no later than June 30, 2024.
SUMMARY
The Director of Religious Education has oversight in all areas of catechesis, with children grades preschool-6th grade, as well as their parents. They are responsible for forming and coordinating religious education programs, classes, & sacramental preparation programs. They oversee additional programs as listed in the Job Description and report to the Pastor. They will work collaboratively with our school principal and staff regarding catechetical formation in our school and be a resource for parish programs in catechesis, especially for formation into different stages of development.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Sacramental preparation of First Communion and Reconciliation.
- Recruit catechists. Discern and call forth their gifts and talents and train and supervise catechists for certification according to diocesan policy and procedures.
- Identify problems and manage conflicts.
- Manage other Religious Education staff and volunteers.
- Meets with the Pastor routinely to discuss religious education, and sacramental prep.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and training.
- Develop and supervise other faith formation opportunities (VBS, Children’s Liturgy, etc.)
- Assist the catechetical certification of school staff in collaboration with the principal.
- Teach parents; motivate and train others to teach.
- Develop and articulate effective administrative policies and procedures.
- Manage Protecting God’s Children formation and documentation for catechisms and other volunteers or leaders.
- Adhere to a catechetical budget and monitor the use of funds.
- Speak and present to small and large groups of individuals.
- Manage a core of volunteers to help in the catechesis process.
- Cooperate, plan, and develop with other DRE’s within the Deanery.

Education, Training and/or Experience (One of the following):
1. BA in Theology/Rel. Ed. or related field.
2. BA/BS in Education with credits in Theology, Catechesis and Scripture.
3. BA/BS in an unrelated field or no college degree with significant experience.
