Director of Religious Education (DRE) Job Description

SUMMARY
The Director of Religious Education has oversight in all areas of catechesis at St. Colette Catholic Church, with children grades preschool-7th grade, as well as their parents. They will also be responsible for forming and coordinating religious education programs, classes, & sacramental preparation programs. This person will report directly to the Pastor. Their work will strive to maintain St. Colette’s mission “…under the guidance of the Holy Spirit are dedicated to celebrating the Good News of Jesus Christ through Worship, Education, Fellowship and service to others.”
DUTIES
- Baptismal Preparation.
- Oversee RCIA Program.
- Oversee sacramental preparation of first communion and reconciliation.
- Supervise First Communion and Confirmation sacramental preparation for children and youth.
- Recruit catechists. Discern and call forth their gifts and talents and train and supervise catechists for certification according to diocesan policy and procedures.
- Foster and facilitate development of a faith community among catechists; devise appropriate procedures and tools for evaluating programs and personnel.
- Identify problems and manage conflicts. Give and receive constructive criticism.
- Manage other Religious Education staff.
- Meets with the Pastor routinely to discuss matters related to the Parish, religious education, and sacramental preparation.
- Review and improve home schooling curriculum & program.
- Oversee SCAP Program, creating and finalizing the program schedule and all its contents.
- Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings.
- Write and submit articles for the bulletin.
REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Prolonged periods of working on a computer.
- Able to attend and maintain energy for both morning and evening commitments.
