Reliability Engineer analyzes and evaluates the reliability of products, equipment, components, and processes using engineering methodologies and tools. Develops the methods and measures utilized for reliability analysis based on product specifications, tolerances, or operating standards. Being a Reliability Engineer utilizes analysis techniques like FMEA, fault tree, and root cause analysis to identify problems. Oversees testing activities and reviews results. Additionally, Reliability Engineer creates risk-based failure mitigation plans. Proposes new or revised product designs, manufacturing processes and testing specifications that utilize best practices and will increase reliability. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically reports to an engineering manager. The Reliability Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.   • What You'll Be Doing

    Job Scope: The Reliability Engineer reports to the Director of Maintenance & Engineering and is accountable for providing reliability engineering for the production units on the site to enable a safe, consistent, reliable, and cost effective operation while supporting Process Safety Management requirements and driving continuous improvement in Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

     

    Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

    • Leads the identification of critical equipment and critical spare equipment.
    • Creates and implements predictive and preventive maintenance strategies for non-fixed plant equipment that reduce or eliminate unplanned production losses.
    • Leads and supports the use and implementation of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)and Reliability Centered Maintenance methods to reduce or eliminate unplanned production losses.
    • Uses reliability analytical and statistical methods to predict and eliminate unplanned equipment failures.
    • Uses experience to support maintenance technicians, maintenance engineers and process engineers to solve chronic equipment reliability issues.
    • Leads Why Tree analysis for critical equipment failures
    • Collaborates with the Mechanical Integrity function to keep the site in compliance with process safety responsibilities.
    • Identifies and supports the implementation of capital improvements that will improve the overall life cycle cost and reliability of critical production equipment.
    • Accurately adheres to the documentation requirements for the Management of Change (MOC) process.
    • Mentors and supports the maintenance technicians and maintenance engineers
    • Works closely with process/production engineers, maintenance and manufacturing technicians in a collaborative environment.
    • Acts as Reliability Engineering liaison with Engineering Contractor for projects in order to ensure policies, procedures, standards and specifications are met.
    • Writes or approves project scopes (Capital spares, spare parts, etc.)
    • Marks and approves drawings
    • Represents business unit at Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) as needed and set standards for implementing site and corporate Mechanical Integrity & Quality Assurance standards.

    Ideal Background

    Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required.

    Certification: Certification in at least one of the following predictive maintenance technologies; vibration, lubrication, thermography, or ultrasound.

    Experience: This position requires 10 or more years of relevant industrial experience in the maintenance, inspection, and/or repair of chemical, petrochemical plant or heavy industrial equipment, Experience leading Failure Mode Effects Analysis or Reliability Centered Maintenance Methodologies

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational and written/oral communication skills
    • Ability to work with a diverse work group of vendors, executive managers, subcontractors, consultants and other professionals
    • Organized, able to manage multiple activities, and programs timely and with a high degree of accuracy.
    • Excellent communications/interpersonal skills to allow productive collaborative relationships with varying levels of the organization from technicians to management.
    • Ability to help develop and improve skill set of co-workers
    • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP)
    • Category 1 or higher vibration analyst certification
    • Level 1 or higher thermography or ultrasound certification
    • Machine Lubrication Analyst 1 or higher certification
    • Knowledge of API 510, 570, and 653
    • Engineering in Training or Professional Engineering License in good standing
    • Knowledge of applicable RAGAGEPs including ASME, API, ASTM
    • Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) OSHA 1910.119
    • Working knowledge of inspection and equipment management software
    • Working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office software
    • Experience using statistical software i.e. Minitab for reliability purposes (Weibell analysis, MTBF, MTBR)

     

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
    • Ability to walk reasonable distances, potentially on uneven ground or catwalks, and ascend stairs.
    • Ability to climb ladders and otherwise navigate through industrial/manufacturing settings and around equipment/installations.
    • Ability to stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, and crawl.
    • Ability to maneuver in confined spaces.
    • Ability to reach with both arms.
    • Ability to walk reasonable distances, potentially on uneven ground, and ascend stairs.
