Position Summary
The Release of Information Specialist I is responsible for the release of medical information; assisting in the analysis and processing of incomplete medical records, distribution functions, and processing of internal and external requests; provides assistance to the physicians in completion of records. Files and indexes scanned records and incoming faxes.
Major Duties and Responsibilities

Performs document preparation, scanning and indexing of medical records, and audits results for image quality and accuracy.

Assembles and maintains complete medical records.

Validates accuracy of scanned documentation.

Validates requests and release protected health information from multiple sources per State, Federal, and other regulatory agency guidelines.

Performs routine accounting and deposits for release of information revenue. Follows up with delinquent accounts.

Provides exceptional customer service to patients and customers. Manages incoming phone calls to department and directs customers to appropriate resources.

Scans and/or indexes medical records into the electronic medical record (EMR). Performs quality control audits and correct errors on scanned documents

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education / Training / Requirements

High School Diploma/GED;
-
Six to twelve months related experience or training.

Demonstrated competency in general HIM department functions.

Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
