Reinsurance Specialist performs routine reinsurance administrative duties, such as maintaining records, processing and verifying new business. Organizes the preparation of monthly and annual reports and ensures reinsurance information has been recorded accurately. Being a Reinsurance Specialist performs reconciliation of premium billing statements and DAC tax calculations and maintenance of various reinsurance operations. Researches and resolves the more complex cases and provides guidance to others. Additionally, Reinsurance Specialist may review work performed by others and train new staff. Works towards industry designations (e.g., FLMI, ARA, ACS, etc.). Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Reinsurance Specialist gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Duties include reviewing insurance documents, inputting data from issued policies, changing policy records to conform to endorsements, canceling/reinstating/non-renewing insurance policies for large schedule commercial package policies with reinsurance and work in partnership  with multiple departments to assure recorded data in company systems are accurate and current.

     

    What you will do for C&F:

     

    • Enter new and renewal policy and endorsement information from issued policies with reinsurance for commercial package business into our policy data and billing system – WINS
    • Identify and understand file documents such as route sheets, facultative document sheet/certificates of reinsurance, cancellation/reinstatement/nonrenewal requests, and applications
    • Create/verify reinsurance cession slips with information provided in the policy file
    • Assign reinsurance control numbers and maintain logs
    • Correspond with underwriters to clarify/verify policy information and/or instructions
    • Collaborate with finance regarding reconciliations and non-entry of reinsurance premium, reinsurance claims, and policy payments
    • Maintain records of all reinsurance policies and initiate process to secure reinsurance prior to renewal or endorsement handling
    • Provide copies of issued policies to reinsurers in exchange for binding certificates
    • Prioritize workload according to business needs and closing schedule

     

    What you will bring to C&F:

     

    • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
    • 2 years insurance/finance work experience
    • Detail oriented
    • Be able to work independently as well as part of a team
    • Produce high quality work product in both accuracy and quantity
    • BosaNova Secure software experience a plus
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • Solid verbal and written communication skills
    • Will abide by departmental policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with C&F's risk management controls
