Reinsurance Specialist performs routine reinsurance administrative duties, such as maintaining records, processing and verifying new business. Organizes the preparation of monthly and annual reports and ensures reinsurance information has been recorded accurately. Being a Reinsurance Specialist performs reconciliation of premium billing statements and DAC tax calculations and maintenance of various reinsurance operations. Researches and resolves the more complex cases and provides guidance to others. Additionally, Reinsurance Specialist may review work performed by others and train new staff. Works towards industry designations (e.g., FLMI, ARA, ACS, etc.). Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Primary Responsibilities
· In collaboration with others, serve as a key point of contact for client inquiries, easing effective communication through video conferencing, telephone, and email.
· Conduct thorough research and provide prompt, professional responses to client inquiries, keeping an elevated level of service.
· Perform ad hoc financial analysis and actively contribute to project-based initiatives.
· Play a pivotal role as a subject matter expert, offering invaluable guidance and support to team accountants, fostering their professional growth and development.
· Function as a trusted resource, providing comprehensive ability and mentorship to drive problem-solving efforts and guide department initiatives, fostering a collaborative and initiative-taking environment focused on continuous improvement and achieving strategic goals.
· Collaborate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
· Review and analyze general ledger accounts, journal entries, and reconciliations.
· Conduct comprehensive analysis of operational data to ensure accuracy and find opportunities for improvement.
· Analyze existing processes and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
Knowledge and Skills
· Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, keeping a professional demeanor.
· Demonstrates a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills.
· Meticulous with exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
· Highly proficient in using Excel for financial analysis and data manipulation.
· Experience with SQL, Power BI, Access, SSRS, relational databases, and reporting software is preferred.
· Candidates with data skills beyond Excel will be prioritized.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic environment, emphasizing accuracy and timeliness.
Experience and Education
· Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a business degree focusing on accounting or finance needed. Postgraduate education preferred.
· Successful candidates should have a proven history of progressively increasing levels of responsibility throughout their professional careers.
· Big 4 (or major regional firm) experience preferred.
· Public accounting candidates: 3-5 years.
· Industry candidates: 4-7 years.
· Experience leading a team of at least 2-5 people is valued.
· CPA certification is preferred.
