Reimbursement Specialist - Healthcare determines the extent to which patients' insurance covers their treatments.     JOB SUMMARY:
     
    Under the supervision of the Vice President of Finance, the Reimbursement Manager gathers and compiles financial and operational data, analyzes and summarizes that data in a manner which accurately represents financial results and complies with government regulations and third-party contracts.
     
    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    1. Maintains accurate and timely information regarding 3rd party reimbursement and prepares financial and statistical reports including Medicare and Medicaid DRG payment analyses.
    2. Designs and maintains databases for allocation statistics and physician information used in Medicare cost reporting.
    3. Assists with all aspects of Medicare cost reporting, including expense analysis and statistics gathering.
    4. Performs functions for month-end financial reporting of net revenue and assists with year-end financial audits.
    5. Assists in development of hospital operating budgets, particularly in regard to gross and net revenue, charge amounts, volumes, proper coding and system interfaces.
    6. Performs miscellaneous analyses and studies for use in the Medicare Cost report, other official filings, and surveys as required.
    7. Responds to questions from financial, government, and 3rd party auditors.
    8. Utilizes specialty computer programs, such as for Medicare cost reporting and contract management.  Understands general ledger and patient accounting systems and program interfaces and can determine most efficient and accurate source of information.
    9.  Performs other duties as required.
    10. Demonstrate efforts to maintain and improve job specific competencies.  Incorporate new knowledge into practice.
    11. Participate in continuous quality improvement activities.
    12. Remain flexible in work schedule in order to provide the most effective and efficient support for the department and hospital mission.
    13. Although position has no responsibility for the assessment, treatment or care of patients, must demonstrate ability to communicate and interact with patients and customers of all ages.
    14. Demonstrate knowledge of all department and hospital policies relevant to the performance of their responsibilities.
    15. Demonstrate knowledge and application of fire safety, hazardous communication program and general safety.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
     
    1. BA/BS in Accounting, Business, or Finance; MBA preferred
    2. Experience in health care and reimbursement preferred.
    3. Strong analytical, technical and organizational skills required as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    4. Experience and proficiency with computers and in software spreadsheet applications required.
    5. Excellent motivational skills as well as the ability to be a change agent.
