    Job Purpose:
    The VITA Client Intake Specialist plays a crucial role by interviewing all Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (VITA) applicants to assess their eligibility in accordance with established policies and procedures. They meticulously review intake forms, confirming their completeness, and extend a respectful welcome to clients. This Intake Specialist screens client information for eligibility and ensures the required documents are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, they monitor site traffic to guarantee each signed-in taxpayer receives adequate assistance while safeguarding the confidentiality of client information. Should any issues arise, they promptly report them to the Site Coordinator.

    Essential Duties:

    • Punctuality and overall consistent, excellent attendance is a must. 
    • Must be available to work Monday through Saturday. Welcome clients with respect and courtesy.
    • Clearly communicate intake expectations to waiting taxpayers.
    • Carefully examine the intake packet provided by clients to ensure all necessary information is complete and accurate. Assist in completing any missing information. 
    • Monitor site traffic to ensure that each signed-in taxpayer receives sufficient assistance.
    • Identify clients with returns outside VITA's scope, advising them that they need to consult a paid preparer.
    • Uphold the confidentiality of client information.
    • Refer taxpayers to other services being offered at the tax site.
    • Promptly report any issues to the Site Coordinator.
    • Ensure no compensation of any kind is accepted for the services provided.
    • Adhere to Title VI by not denying service to anyone based on race, color, sex, age, national origin or disability.
    • Must speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish.
    • Other duties may be assigned.



    Requirements

    Skills/qualifications:

    • To excel in this role, an individual must meet the following requirements, as they are indicative of the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Successful completion of SDC's complimentary tax law-e-file training session, including passing the Advanced level certification of IRS Link & Learn Taxes.
    • Completion of a criminal background check and drug test is mandatory before participation in the program.

    • Demonstrate the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 
    • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.  

    Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience including interviewing for the purpose of gathering and verifying pertinent information for the completion of forms. 
    • Must speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish.
    • Previous tax preparation experience (including personal taxes).

Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. During the performance of his/her duties, the incumbent will regularly lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
