    Your Opportunity

    Stantec is currently seeking a Regulatory Specialist / Electrical Designer hybrid to provide technical support on a long-term project in Virginia. A portion of this position will be part of Stantec’s Environmental Services team that provides the full range of expertise needed to support a variety of permitting and approval requirements. This position also includes electrical distribution design that will be overseen by Stantec’s Power and Environmental Services groups.

    Your Key Responsibilities

    • Complete desktop reviews of projects.
    • Support permitting for railroad, roadway, and utility crossings.
    • Create and complete NJUNS database entries.
    • Conduct field audits of existing overhead and underground facilities associated with electric distribution system. Prepare field notes and preliminary designs, take photos, and upload/organize the information in the project file following established procedures.
    • Analyze electrical load data and perform calculations to determine size and location of electric distribution facilities based on client engineering standards, existing or proposed easements, Right of Way permits, and operational needs and requirements.
    • Review and evaluate easement documents to ensure compatibility with design.
    • Develop detailed electrical designs including calculations and other supporting documents in coordination with Stantec personnel and our client.
    • Direct drafting personnel in the development of design drawings.
    • Communicate and coordinate with ROW agent, constructor, and end client during performance of site evaluations to ensure proper design approach.
    • Communicate and collaborate within Environmental Services and other Business Lines (Power and Transportation/ROW) to ensure consistency in project execution.
    • Participate in team and independent based work.
    • Support and ensure implementation of Health, Safety, Security, & Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSSE professionals during the execution of all phases of project planning and implementation.

    Education and Experience

    The position requires an A.S. degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Drafting and Design or similar experience.

    Engineering Technology or comparable work experience. Technical Degree acceptable with training/experience related to electrical distribution systems.

    Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
