    ABOUT THE POSITION:

    The Regulatory Specialist is responsible to work with Marketing, Research & Development departments, etc. as well as sister companies to develop product labeling and secure USDA approvals, as well as assure accuracy and regulatory compliance for all packaging and labels. This position requires individuals having a strong drive and passion for success, and always putting the company’s best interests first.

    SCHEDULE: Day shift, Monday – Friday 8am – 4:30pm with schedule flexibility.

    WAGE: $63,250.00 - $83,750.00 annually, subject to all required taxes and withholdings.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Maintains an up-to-date and expert understanding of USDA labeling requirements including but not limited to the basic label setup, ingredients, nutrition panel, nutrition claims, formulas, and process methods
    • Primary accountability and responsibility for USDA label submittals and approvals using Easy Form (USDA labeling software) for Oberto Brands and associated sister companies
    • Primary accountability for in-house WIP, case, pallet and product label setups using EZ Label (in-house label printer driver)
    • Primary accountability and responsibility for creating and updating ingredient statements and nutrition panels using Genesis nutrition software
    • Reviews existing labels for conformity to standards and specify appropriate changes when necessary
    • Reviews and proofs labels and artwork files from vendors, creative artists, and in-house sources to verify maintenance of regulatory standards
    • Organize and maintain copies and technical files of all label output as required by Oberto Brands and associated sister companies
    • Ability to think through labeling challenges and requirements
    • Researches all proposed ingredient additions / changes for legal labeling terminology
    • Serves as an expert on labeling issues, ingredient issues and the evolving regulatory landscap
    • Follow established programs, policies, and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.
    • Maintain accountability to Oberto Brands Food Safety and Quality Principles.
    • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF Systems.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    • Back Up: The Director of R&D is the back up to the Regulatory Specialist.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in food science.
    • 1-3 years’ experience in food manufacturing QA or regulations, prior labeling experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of USDA and/ or FDA regulations as they pertain to labeling, standards of identity, allergens, and food safety gained from hands on knowledge, technical reading, industry interaction, and/or attendance at appropriate seminars and educational courses.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Can present effectively to a wide audience range from line leadership through executive management.
    • Excellent organizational abilities are paramount.
    • Extremely strong accuracy and attention to detail is required.
    • Working knowledge of food ingredients and formulations.
    • Ability to interpret USDA and FDA regulations and advise cross functional groups (i.e. Marketing, Product Development, Sales, etc.) on proposed claims and formulations and can recommend appropriate changes when necessary to bring same into compliance.
    • Positive and proactive individual with superior relationship building skills and problem solving skills.
    • Ability to operate independently as well as act as a proactive participant in group settings.
    • Ability to adhere to aggressive deadlines and work with minimal direct supervision.
    • Flexible and accommodating as priorities rapidly change.
    • Able to handle multiple priorities on short timelines.
    • Strong capabilities in QAD, Microsoft Office products, and SharePoint
    • Enhances overall group effectiveness by encouraging team working behaviors and actively develops teamwork across departmental boundaries.
    • Trusts his/her own capabilities to face critical situations and is ready to face any challenge.
