    The Senior Associate will play an integral part in monitoring the regulatory changes and proactively recommend procedural updates.

    Purpose:

    The Regulatory Affairs Sr. Associate makes a difference by monitoring healthcare legislation, regulations, industry guidance and standards for potential impacts to our products and services. The position is responsible for timely, accurate identification and communication of regulatory impacts that could optimize our services to our clients supporting client compliance with government requirements.

    Essential functions:

    • Monitor and research the changing healthcare regulations and industry standards in our business.
    • Identify relevant guidance documents and apply processes to interpret impact.
    • Develop a basic understanding of the US Healthcare regulatory framework, processes, and its relationship to Cognizant solution lifecycles.
    • Build arguments based on regulatory and industry requirements to support the development of the product and services to meet compliance requirements.
    • Support (and lead where appropriate) regulatory requirement walkthroughs and training sessions so partners are informed of the impact(s) of healthcare regulations.
    • Research and maintain a knowledge base of existing and emerging regulations and standards.
    • Lead requirements analysis and quality assurance (peer) reviews, ensuring that requirement statements are complete, consistent, traceable, feasible, and verifiable.
    • Proactive reviews of healthcare industry newsletters, regulatory journals, and “happenings” to stay informed of changing standards and the future of regulatory compliance.
    • Provides regulatory activities/issues reports to management on a regular basis; provides sufficient advanced notification of impending regulatory changes that impact Cognizant solutions.
    • Implements changes to baseline requirements through effective application of change control processes and tools.

    Qualifications:

    Education:

    • Requires a BA/BS degree in a related field.

    Experience:

    • A minimum of 5 years of healthcare business experience in payer or provider healthcare IT products and services markets

    Competencies:

    • Demonstrated subject matter knowledge of:

    1.                  Government Lines of Business, HIPAA, and other CMS and regulatory requirements and how payers, providers and systems maintain compliance.

    2.                  Healthcare regulations applicable to payers, providers, and health systems

    3.                  HIPAA, HITECH/Meaningful Use, Promoting Interoperability and other Health and Human Services agency requirements and related initiatives.

    • Requires sophisticated analytic skills, excellent writing skills and the ability to integrate technical information into requirements, use cases and action plans.
    • Strong presentation skills, able to optimally communicate to a variety of audiences (including clients and senior management)
    • Experience with requirements elicitation, analysis, specification, verification, and management practices and applying them in practice is essential.
    • Genuine curiosity about the "rules" of the healthcare industry

    Technical Proficiencies:

    • Strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills required.
    • Intermediate Level Microsoft Office
    • Intermediate Level PowerPoint

    Salary and Other Compensation:

    The annual salary for this position is between $43,900 and $94,500 annually depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

    This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
