The Hardlines Regulatory Affairs Specialist is responsible for supporting the development and production of all hardlines products including children’s products, general consumer goods, and food contact materials to assure that products meet regulatory requirements set by governmental agencies, industry standards, sustainability initiatives, and customer requirements. The Compliance Specialist role will provide critical input to support decision making and will work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, new product development, procurement, and other internal cross functional teams, as well as liaising with external partners.
Essential Duties:

Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of relevant regulations, standards, and directives applicable to hardlines products ranging from children's products, general merchandise, and food contact materials.

Product/Risk Assessments: Conduct assessments and evaluations of new materials and products to ensure compliance with requirements, including safety, quality, labeling, and environmental regulations.

Product Labeling and Packaging Review: Ensure that product labeling and packaging meet all requirements including legally required disclosures, claims, safety warnings, and product certifications.

Reading & Interpreting test reports: Provide summary of failures to management.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with marketing, new product development and procurement teams to identify potential compliance issues and provide guidance on how to address them.

Strategic Development & Positioning: Support development and implementation of compliance programs and procedures (SOPs) related to applicable products.

Documentation & Reporting: Maintain records related to compliance activities, including but not limited to; supply chain documentation management, specifications, Restricted Substances and State reporting (as needed).

Third Party Testing: Coordinate closely with laboratories for review and advisement of internal and customer protocols, the requesting and execution of testing, and communication of results to cross functional partners.

Special Projects: Participation in optimization of data collection, cataloging, and reporting

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (engineering, biology/chemistry, material sciences) OR

2-3 years of experience in a compliance role, preferably in the children's product field.

Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to interpret technical documents, regulations, and standards effectively.

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

Experience with product testing and certifications is a plus
